Hey, Pete! Thanks for your suggestions. I am not sure about that. I thought of the colors. Does this photo look like a photo or like a painting? Somehow I get the feeling that either my screen or my eye is fooling me.

Chris

Looks good to me.

Thanks Pete.  These were growing close-by but I'm much too cautious (chicken!) to pick for eating.

I think I would be too, Keith.  The only ones I pick for eating are pre-packaged and on a supermarket shelf.  I know enough about poisonous fungi to not want to make a mistake and wind up in intensive care or worse.

I noticed some Common Ink Cap mushrooms (Coprinopsis atramentaria) about ten metres from my front door today and looking as innocent as anything.  Many sites will tell you that they're edible, which they are, but they are deadly poisonous if consumed within a day of drinking alcohol (before, during, or afterwards).

Pete.

A potted parsley is still growing vigorously on our south-facing decking and this tiny hoverfly spent quite some time exploring it in detail this morning. Its tapered abdomen pointed me in the direction of female Syrphus vitripennis.  But I'm probably wrong...
