Either a MP Classic (which is basically an M-A in black paint finish), or a repainted M-A, or a-la-carte M-A.

It’s an M-a with an MP black paint top cover., or repainted top.  A bit unusual that the bottom plate was left as the standard black chrome. There is no battery slot so not an MP…

Also it has the VF size noted in the window.

The MP Classic does not have a battery slot either —> https://news.mapcamera.com/maptimes/【leica】mp-classic-登場!!/

The M-A on the Leica official web page shows M-A black chrome with the "round" R lever and the classic style lens release button.

Seems like its an official change of the parts

Got caught yesterday in a thunderstorm. Rained cats and dogs for about 15 minutes. I had no protection for my M-A and lens (Voigt 50mm 1.5). The rig was soaking wet. Finally made it back to my car. Found a dry towel in my back seat and dried her off as best I could. Went back home. Anything else I should do?

I can think of something you shouldn't do:  don't store the camera away. Just keep it out and give it some air.

Yes that is exactly what I am doing. Seems to be working fine. I guess these Leica M's hold up pretty well, especially when there are no electronics involved.

Take the lens off (I’m sure you have already done this) and put both lens and camera on a window sill in the sun.

We understand why Leica moved to brass top,

Not like some M6 we can see here, in this thread

I mean, Leica’s own website says the Leica MP is ready for any weather life throws at you, as long as you remove the battery. So I assume that applies to the M-A as well!

Now that the New M6 is released, I feel safe that it has nothing on my M-A. Still the whole thing is good for film users.

😃

If I wanted an M-A, the new M6 (and MP) would not be an alternative since they are essentially electronics, IMO.

Agreed - I bought the M-A as it didn't have any electronics.  THere's something about its simplicity that is very appealing.  Loaded with Tri-X, it is a great companion for my SwC loaded with Velvia.  Both make you think.

For many M users, one can "do" M-A things with M6/MP just take out the battery.

I tend to agree of course, having done this before buying M-A.

BUT, not really M-A (or M4, M4-P) experiences, with these nice metered M.

(side note, M5 is outsider here 😉)

I don't bother arguing anymore, just experiment to see it (or not) depending on users.

This is great, some bothered by red LED, some happy to have in VF metering, that is fine.
