I didn't know that disabling the live view button was an option (other than by slathering a thick coating of five minute epoxy over it).

It wasn't until the last firmware update that addressed concerns expressed by other accidental LV users.

Didn't read it, only the headlines. I'd say the M60 is for camera fondlers. Not for anyone serious. Just Leica pervs.

Well my M60 arrived yesterday.

My wife was at home and opened the package to see what it was.

When I came back from work she opened the door wearing nothing but the White gloves...

To be honest I haven't had a chance to look at the rest of the package yet but based on last night I would say it's £12k well spent :D

Respect!

There are special times when the Leica Forum reads like...er... the Penthouse Forum.

Here's my take on Leicas operations:

1) regular editions which satisfy most people.

2) special editions for people with endless pockets.

A standard edition leica is quite expensive, but not more than a flagship canon/nikon with flagship lens. Sure, they are not directly comparable in terms of features, but for a working professional, $10-15K for your main tool is not exorbitant at all, as long as you get the results you want. Personally I am infintely happy that there is an option at all to buy a small digital leica. Its just perfect for my kind of photography. Compare it as much as you want to a 1DX with 28-70, because I am never going to buy one, not to mention carry one around.

I doubt Leica makes a ton of money on regular editions. This is a (relatively) small scale operation with sky high quality goals and a comparatively large degree of manual labor by experienced professionals in a leading european country. Of course it is going to be expensive.

The special editions, is a different story. I dare to guess that these special editions go a long way to make sure that there is a Leica at all. Financially, from being in deep $h!t just a decade ago, Leica is now floating quite solidly.

Nobody NEEDS a special edition Leica. However, the way it is set up is so that a lof of people are going to WANT it. Leica, with its solid position as the "Patek" of the camera world, would be absolutely bonkers not to take the money from people who never look at the price as long as they get something that few others have.
