ShawnK Posted November 3, 2014 Share #1 Posted November 3, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I received V-Lux Type 114, the current model. I tried to upload my RAW images (menu settings were just RAW & not RAW+JPEG. My M 240 gives me files with .DNG designation but V-LUX gave me .RWL designation. Adobe camera Raw does not recognizes .RWL files. Should I delete all the pics I took & reformat it in V-LUX? I can view all the pics on LCD screen & zoom in too, but can't get them out in a file that Adobe can read. First pic I took was JPG, that went thru' fine. Thank you, any & all suggestion can only improve this newbie's knowledge.
Advertisement Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Hi ShawnK, Take a look here Help, Any suggestions?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
250swb Posted November 3, 2014 Share #2 Posted November 3, 2014 .RWL are Panasonic RAW files which makes sense. You don't say which software you are using other than Adobe, but if it is Photoshop go to Bridge and in 'Preferences' you will find 'File Type Associations', go down the list and tick the Panasonic box. This will do the job, and for any other type of new camera in future tick the appropriate box. Steve
ShawnK Posted November 3, 2014 Author Share #3 Posted November 3, 2014 Thank you Steve, appreciate your time & effort. I do use Adobe Photoshop CS5. I still haven't found a way to open the V-Lux 114 files. Sent an e-mail to Leica Tech support, they are out of office last Thursday, Friday & will reply soon (canned response). I did what you suggested & found it in Preference < Edit but to no avail, still no show. Talked to my Leica Dealer he thought may be Lightroom 5 will open, but no it did not. I had LR5 so checked if it was current & it is. In LR5 thumbnails do not show images but a statement "preview is unavailable for this file". Although one JPEG I shot is visible. I also checked Panasonic fz-1000 manual, they are not telling me any different. I deleted all the pics I took yesterday & reformatted the SDHC card & shot a few. As usual visible in LCD, downloaded via card reader attached to my PC & same results. I'm baffled, bewildered & bothered.
Luke_Miller Posted November 3, 2014 Share #4 Posted November 3, 2014 Reportedly Adobe DNG Converter 8.7 RC will convert your RWL files to a DNG format that will work in Lightroom and Photoshop.
ShawnK Posted November 3, 2014 Author Share #5 Posted November 3, 2014 Thank you Luke. You are of course correct. BUT that means I have to abandon my PS CS5, buy Photoshop CC, so I can get Adobe Camera RAW 8.7. The Leica V-Lux 114 is listed as one of the camera supported in the new "8.7" Camera RAW, YET the "Panasonic fz1000" the original camera from where the V-Lux 114 is rebadged can be opened in the current Adobe Camera RAW, so after paying for the rebadged additional $450 for a $900 camera,(B&H) I have to pay $120 per anum forever, just to have the privilege of opening the images I took, unless I take just JPEGs. Of course Luke I appreciate your efforts & time, I really do.I'm old enough to know the difference between the message & the messenger.
ShawnK Posted November 3, 2014 Author Share #6 Posted November 3, 2014 Thank You Luke & Steve. After talking to Adobe Store I just went ahead & upgraded my Photoshop CS5 to CS6 for $212.+ This gave me access to Camera RAW 8.7 RC, which should allow me to open V-Lux 114 RAW files. Luke_Miller Posted November 3, 2014 Share #7 Posted November 3, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) The reason I suggested Adobe DNG Converter 8.7 RC is that you should be able to process the converted DNG output from your Leica V-Lux 114 RWL files in your existing software. While the DNG Converter has to be compatible with files from your camera, the DNGs themselves are pretty universal within the Adobe product lines.
