mroche Posted October 29, 2014 Share #1 Posted October 29, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, apologies if this is already covered but I could not find anything searching the forums. I just purchased a Monochrome to add to an M9 I've loved for 4 years. Only 40 shots in and it is definitely living up to my expectations and going where the M9 could not in low light/indoor. Just registered it on Leica website and went to check for firmware upgrades. 1.002 is the latest I can find on Leica and mentioned in forums but mine is claiming to be on 1.006 firmware. The test date in the warranty pack is 31st July 2014. Is this a released firmware? Anyone know what might be different? thanks, Mike

richfx Posted October 31, 2014 Share #2 Posted October 31, 2014 Hmmm. Very interesting. Let us know what you find. Rich
erlingmm Posted November 2, 2014 Share #3 Posted November 2, 2014 My Mono was in for shutter repair in Solms this summer, it is also now FW 1.
mroche Posted November 2, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted November 2, 2014 Interesting, so it's being rolled out on new or repaired but not as a general update yet it seems. Without the release notes we won't know what has changed!
elmars Posted November 2, 2014 Share #5 Posted November 2, 2014 Perhaps the change is only to list the new summarits. Elmar
Edward Louis Marit Posted November 2, 2014 Share #6 Posted November 2, 2014 How interesting Mine came back from a sensor replacement in September. I never thought to check the firmware but will do so when I next use it.
pico Posted November 2, 2014 Share #7 Posted November 2, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) mine is claiming to be on 1.006 firmware Is possible to copy it from the camera so that we can try it?
readypat Posted November 2, 2014 Share #8 Posted November 2, 2014 My Monochrom with a test date of 6/11/14 also has firmware 1.006, I called the dealer regarding this firmware and they are aware of the change but had no information as to why or what the update included. jaapv Posted November 2, 2014 Share #9 Posted November 2, 2014 It may be a minor update that has no impact on the use of the camera.
pico Posted November 2, 2014 Share #10 Posted November 2, 2014 It may be a minor update that has no impact on the use of the camera. And it might not.
jaapv Posted November 3, 2014 Share #11 Posted November 3, 2014 True. But as nobody seems to have noticed any difference and it was not announced by Leica it seems to be a reasonable assumption that it was a minor "technical" update.
250swb Posted November 3, 2014 Share #12 Posted November 3, 2014 When Leica Wetzlar used a seal with an 'L' in relief to show that the camera had not been serviced, and an embossed 'L' to show it had, or other embossed characters to show which service centre, everybody could see at a glance a vital clue to its condition and if sellers stories (the substitute for a service book) and the service receipts made some sort of sense. So 'just had a full CLA at Leica NY' wouldn't make sense if the 'L' was still present or if the symbol said it had last been serviced in Ulan Bator. Perhaps this is just a similar system being implemented, given the large jump in missing Firmware updates (002 > 009) that are never going happen? mjh Posted November 7, 2014 Share #13 Posted November 7, 2014 Perhaps the change is only to list the new summarits. And that’s exactly what it is. The new firmware will be publicly available soon.
pico Posted November 7, 2014 Share #14 Posted November 7, 2014 And that’s exactly what it is. The new firmware will be publicly available soon. The code is so different from a programmer's perspective that it suggests that Leica is finally getting hip to more conventional compilations. We shall see if there are other goodies in there. Or not. .

mjh Posted November 7, 2014 Share #17 Posted November 7, 2014 Will there be a new firmware version for the M9 too? I have no confirmation of this but I suppose so. On the other hand I wouldn’t expect anything to get excited about.
elmars Posted November 7, 2014 Share #18 Posted November 7, 2014 It is only about the new Summarit 50mm, because the lens interests me. Apart from that I have no complains about the firmware of the M9. Elmar
jpk Posted November 7, 2014 Share #19 Posted November 7, 2014 My guess is pixel remapping: after remap your camera will show a new firmware version number. At least that's what happened to my MM.
Edward Louis Marit Posted November 17, 2014 Share #20 Posted November 17, 2014 Update I just charged mine up for a trip. Checked the firmware and still 1.002 Clearly they didn't upload new FW during the cameras holiday in NJ. As I don't own, or intend on owning any of the new summarits I will just not bother with the update on either the MM or M.
