You'd be surprised. At Photokina most of the small crowd admiring the camera were toting Canikons or high-end Japanese compacts, there were virtually no negative comments, other than I wish I could afford it.

I still don't get why I should dispense with all the features the LCD provides unless the camera was thinned back to M7 depth. Yes even if the mount had to protrude. The lens mount is irrelevant to gripping the camera. Otherwise I turn off auto review and ignore the LCD aside from menus just as I do with every digital camera I own or have owned.

The other thing about the M 60 that completely turns me off is the red-only frame lines. I detest them on the M240 but at least it's only an option.

The frame lines are white.

attach the camera to computer, voila! :D

or bluetooth, wifi to smartphone with a Leica app to change, customize settings. Easy as pie!

Good point. This camera will probably go through an iteration or two until it gets to a point where they're able to dtermine what to offload to the computer and what to leave on the camera.

I love the idea, but if it uses the m240 sensor, it just seems silly to invest in technology that will probably be updated in another year.

If they release the next generation M in two versions, ie. one with and another without a LCD I would go for the one without lcd.

Maybe there will be four versions - colour with and without LCD - monochrom with and without LCD. Silver and black body options for each would result in eight variants. I could see the monochrom option being non-LCD only....

I could live without the LCD if there is an EVF option for those times I want to use live view and review images.

If a screen-less camera where to ever be released as a standard item I presume in some way it will need to be interface with certain functions that are needed for digital photography such as setting the time and date in camera, formatting the card etc. I suppose this could be done either by having an attachable EVF or a way to let the camera communicate wirelessly with a say a phone app so all of this could be done remotely. You could also go for a small top mounted LCD display which could be used for giving this info (like a en enlarge M8 battery and farm counter).

I can see where the lack of a screen might solve a problem for fans of blind shooting who lack the self-discipline to keep autoreview disabled.

you are missing the point.

Less unnecessary discipline means less distractions.

Focus the discipline on the most relevant things!

Blind shooting using OVF? good try, maybe Leica forum is wrong for some ppl. I suggest some videography forums. AVF?

This thread reminds me in a rather general way of similar threads following the introduction of the M (Typ 240). I might be mistaken, but it seems that some who argue here that you can ignore all of a screen, six buttons, a cross-action control and a thumb wheel were very vocal about ignoring one (1) video button on top of the camera.

:D

I beg to differ. The M concept is not an easy one to update. What they actually did starting with the M8 was adding a sensor and a progressively increasing amount of whistles and bells.

This camera actually removes the whistles and bells and goes back to its almost purest form, an automatic/manual camera that has a sensor instead of film (and 24MP are more than enough), so there's nothing left to worry about updates. So far I haven't seen anyone worrying about M7 updates...

Cheers,

Bruno

Well I think most here do expect an update to the digital M in 2015. And I'm certainly not interested in the updated bells and whistles but I personally wouldn't like to put 6000 into a new camera and then see the new M with a better sensor in the shops within the year.

The reality (still) is that the digital world differs from the film world in that camera's do get updated frequently and do still improve.

Who said anything about ignoring the screen? It's only about not chimping. And the problem with the video button in the beginning was that it couldn't be disabled prior to the firmware update.
