Capture One Pro 8

I am disappointed there is no support for the S, and I assume it's still the same for C1 Seven.

Is it possible to use C1 with the S in any fashion?

Edit: I'm wondering who is using the S with C1 and the Leica ICC profile?

Also, you could build your own camera profile from scratch. As the S shoots DNG, the files are readable (per se) by Capture One 7 and 8, there’s just the missing camera profile.

The process of creating your own camera profile is harder than with Lightroom. But basically it’s the same approach:

1) You’ll need a suitable target. As Capture One uses ICC profiles, you’ll want a target with as many measurement patches as possible, e.g. the Colorchecker Digital SG or a multi-patch IT8 target.

2) For a more universally usable profile, you’ll need two shots of said target at different colour temperatures. Say, daylight vs/ shadow or vs/ tungsten lighting.

3) You’ll need profiling software that can output multi-target ICC/ICM profiles, and know how to use it. Examples are basICColor input (300 Euro) and Argyll CMS (open source, e.g. free, but hell to use).

4) You’ll need to tweak the profile for general use, as outlined in LFI two months ago. Or profile individually for each lighting situation / shoot.

What Adobe did right with their XRite collaboration was that creating custom camera profiles was made bloody easy. Just take a shot of your ColorChecker Passport, run it through the free software, tweak a bit using the free DNG editor, done. With ICC/ICM (e.g. Capture One), it’s much more difficult to generate a universally acceptable profile. Phase One even publishes blog postings about HEUREKA! moments from their colour tweaking guru. You get the idea.

But it’s feasible, depending on the ceiling of your frustration level. ;)

Cheers,

-Sascha
