I left the camera with customer care in December so it has taken only a month or so (including the Christmas period) for the camera to be sent to Germany, the DX reader to be retrofitted and the camera returned to London. A very good service IMO and it's nice to know that Leica still stand behind (some of) their products.

That's very good news. I'm about to send off my M7 and the thought of being without it for 4-6 weeks (quoted) makes me sad

Thanks Pico and Ian for your useful pictures :)

Mark , you should use this camera more often :)

Color is so nice and no equivalent until this day IMHO

Best

Although I'm not into Leica-porn I did promise Henry a peek at my recently acquired mint M7 (2007, 3999xxx). Seen today with my 28/50/90 'lite' lens kit which is perfect for this camera.

My setup is complete. It is ok to mix black chrome with black paint!

Thanks David .

I just saw that the lever arm is MP type . I think it's  a M7 à la carte

Henry

Sorry, I misunderstood you.  Yes, the camera is an á la carte M7 (black paint).  The lens is the aforementioned black chrome version of the 35mm Summicron ASPH.

I recently became the owner of a "near new" M7 which I would love to love. There is however a small issue which you probably have covered a thousand times, "Whiteout" or "Flaring" or something like that.

I don't know for a fact that that is what it is, but I have been playing around with the Camera and having a very hard time focusing when items were in not very "contrasty" environments. I had a hard time seeing the image to overlay the area I wanted to focus on, unless I found some other area nearby which I could use to focus on and then move to my object of interest.

Is this what you all allude to as a problem and if so what does it take to remedy it if even worth the while?

I probably need to admit to that I have been used to working with my R3 for great many years, so I'm not very familiar with the handling M series.

My M 7 S/N 2782903

I do like the design, size and just holding in the hand, but I need training!

Thanks for your insight and patience with this simple issue for long time users like you!

Preben , congrats for your "near new" M7. Not accustomed with M rangefinder isn't ?

Very easy for me after some weeks of photos coming from SLR too :)

Look at this link and you'll understand the mechanism :

Good photos and don't forget to post your pictures in "I like film" thread

Be careful that you are not inadvertently putting your finger over the little RF window on the front of the camera. This can cause the RF patch to fade or disappear completely. It also helps if your eye is centred properly behind the viewfinder.

That said, your serial number is well within the early range so it is quite probable that you don't have the MP style finder. Whilst this does mean that your M7 is a bit more prone to 'white-out' it also means it is just like the M6 camera that thousands of photographers have used successfully for decades.

Many congratulations on getting a great camera, I love my M7 that I also bought used. One easy add on that some folks like for easier focusing is the Walter eyepiece. They come in two colors and I've heard he makes high quality Leica accessories:

Best of luck and enjoy your classic M7 in the best of health!

I have two early M7 cameras, one .72 finder and one .58. With great skepticism I added Lutz Konermann's  Leicagoodies Shade to the .72. It works for me. Apparently it is not an ND filter but something else that I can't guess. I will get one for the .58 to see if it works there.

What does the  Leicagoodies Shade do for your M7?
