hockey44 Posted September 5, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 5, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Since the buffer is out-- any speculation on what this might be and cost? Unless local service centers can do it I suspect this means a long time to wait...(starting in Q1 2015?)
Advertisement Posted September 5, 2014 Posted September 5, 2014 Hi hockey44, Take a look here Lecia Rumors claim partial upgrade to MP for M owners. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
250swb Posted September 5, 2014 Share #2 Posted September 5, 2014 Why not wait twelve months for the M360?
rosuna Posted September 5, 2014 Share #3 Posted September 5, 2014 Since the buffer is out-- any speculation on what this might be and cost? Unless local service centers can do it I suspect this means a long time to wait...(starting in Q1 2015?) Most probably: LCD sapphire screen cover and -maybe- top brass cover replaced or top engraving. The cost of the additional memory (2GB vs 1GB in the M-P) should be lower than the cost of work time in the upgrading process, so I expect M + upgrade to be more expensive than M-P. AlanJW Posted September 5, 2014 Share #4 Posted September 5, 2014 Very nice of Leica to offer this, but unless the cosmetically improved top plate (or the big button vs the big red dot) or sapphire LCD is critical to your work, I don't quite see the point of investing further $$ into a M240. None of those changes will affect one's working style with the camera or have any impact on image quality. I'd rather save my money for the next model, which should have such things as improved EVF, processor upgrade from current Maestro and who knows what else (I am not looking for more megapixels but I suppose they may do it anyhow). Jeff S Posted September 5, 2014 Share #5 Posted September 5, 2014 Customer letter on Rumors site indicates no buffer or frame lever change; other options available 2nd quarter 2015. So, a sapphire, an autograph and a screw….reminds me of some celebrity news. Jeff
tookaphotoof Posted September 5, 2014 Share #6 Posted September 5, 2014 Actually, I would loved to have the lovely writing on the top plate. The downside is, it will cost me money whilst not helping my photographing skills in any way.
mjh Posted September 5, 2014 Share #7 Posted September 5, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I don’t see how such a partial upgrade would be worth the expense, but that’s just me.
bocaburger Posted September 5, 2014 Share #8 Posted September 5, 2014 I upgraded my M8, it was a total waste of money to me.
jbl Posted September 5, 2014 Share #9 Posted September 5, 2014 I'm really split. I guess it depends on the cost, but there's no real photographic impact which is sort of why I wouldn't sell my M240 to upgrade. I just wish they'd do these at the beginning of the product line rather than late in the cycle.

If everything had to be shoved through a Utilitarian Calculus to be justified we'd all be wearing Mao jackets. Thank goodness that's not the case. s-a
jaapv Posted September 5, 2014 Share #11 Posted September 5, 2014 Leica has always been willing to engrave cameras, not only with Leica logos, but with whatever the customer specified.

Thank goodness that's not the case. s-a I'd like a Mao jacket, but they are way too expensive in the local boutique. The so called upgrade to the M240: It is pure cosmetics but doesn't make the camera more useful. I think, you can give the camera an eight year old girl with a bunch of acrylic pens. Then you get a nice camera back for free.
epand56 Posted September 5, 2014 Share #14 Posted September 5, 2014 I don't mind the sapphire glass or the top brass cover or the top engraving. I only crave for the screw. Better a black one on my chrome M.
colonel Posted September 7, 2014 Share #15 Posted September 7, 2014 Don't do if (new) M-P - (2nd hand sale) M240 <= (upgrade) M240->M-P - (diff factor uM-P vs real M-P) £500 BTW I found this diff factor between the second hand price of the real M9 and uM9-P despite in that case no difference in functionality whereas there will be here

jbl Posted September 8, 2014 Share #18 Posted September 8, 2014 I may "upgrade" but it depends on the price I suppose. The aesthetics are better IMO and I don't like the large red dot.
