Looks pretty identical to the one I just acquired sans the markings JD, how much does one of these cost?

lct Posted August 29, 2014 Share #22 Posted August 29, 2014 I have a Heavystar clip on Model that fits the Ridgid 50, and 35 Summilux Pre Asph. It is apparently a clone of the 12504 hood for Summicron 35/2 and Summilux 35/1.4 pre-asph. Nice hood indeed but less effective than the 12585 to be honest. Is yours separated into two halves like the original? Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! swamiji Posted September 2, 2014 Share #27 Posted September 2, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Both the 12585 and the 12504 are combination hood and filter holder. The 12585 uses series VI filters and the 12504 uses series VII filters. The 12504 unscrews and the filter is held firmly in place. However the 12585 uses clips to hold the filter in place, and the filters can pop out if jared.
gyoung Posted September 3, 2014 Share #28 Posted September 3, 2014 Slightly OT, but IROOA works well on a 35 for M3 with goggles, the viewfinder attachment makes it useful without cutoff Gerry

If the clips hold series 6 its chance rather than design perhaps. The 2 sets of clips are there so the hood can be reversed I think, I am away from home and don't have any lenses with the 12585 hood with me, but I do have the 90 Elmarit with the similar 12575 and I think a filter would be precarious in there and would fall out when you take the hood off. swamiji Posted September 3, 2014 Share #31 Posted September 3, 2014 Sorry, I lost the instruction guide, but you don't need two sets of clips with a ridged divide to provide a reversible hood. Most hoods of this type are reversible, even those with single set of clips. It is however, a perfect fit for a series VI filter, which has been in use for a very long time. Series filters were mentioned in my copy of the Leica Manual from 1937. In my copy of Leica and Leicaflex way (1974), the 12585 was mentioned in the section in how to use hoods with series filters, but does not mentioned what filter to use with it. In fact it does not match any filter to hood combination.
lct Posted September 3, 2014 Share #32 Posted September 3, 2014 Series VI filters were aimed at some lenses for Visoflex IIRC and the 12585 hood was used on lenses having threads for E39 filters already so i doubt that it was made to hold series VI filters as well but i may be wrong. pico Posted September 3, 2014 Share #33 Posted September 3, 2014 This thread has been most helpful. I have ordered the appropriate shade without asking here. Lurking works.

Then explain the 12504, fits roughly the same lenses with the express purpose of holding a series VII filter?
jdlaing Posted September 4, 2014 Share #35 Posted September 4, 2014 Then explain the 12504, fits roughly the same lenses with the express purpose of holding a series VII filter? That's not it's express purpose. It's express purpose is as a hood. It happens to also hold filters.
swamiji Posted September 4, 2014 Share #36 Posted September 4, 2014 That's not it's express purpose. It's express purpose is as a hood. It happens to also hold filters. That's a pretty big "happens to", as the hood comes apart to hold the filter. Then there are the R hoods, that not only holds series filters but provide knobs to rotate polarizer filters as well. lct Posted September 4, 2014 Share #37 Posted September 4, 2014 Then explain the 12504, fits roughly the same lenses with the express purpose of holding a series VII filter? The 12504 hood was not aimed at lenses with filter thread. Was for Summilux 35/1.4 pre-asph and Summicron 35/2 # 11309 if memory serves. It is a wide angle hood that is not made for 50mm lenses at all. You can use it with the latters if you wish but it is less efficient as a shade than the 12585 by a significant margin. lct Posted September 4, 2014 Share #39 Posted September 4, 2014 I have no experience with this lens and don't have a Leitz catalogue with me here but i can confirm that the 12504 hood was made especially for Summilux 35/1.4 # 11870 & 11871 (as from SN # 2166701) and Summicron 35/2 # 11309. swamiji Posted September 4, 2014 Share #40 Posted September 4, 2014 Yes it's usable on those lenses, and fits the current 28mm Elmarit ASPH too, wether or not it was especially made for one lens or another I can't say. That's advertising copy. But my version says it's for the 50mm f/2 as well and fits my 50mm rigid perfectly, with or without a series VII filter.
