pauledell Posted August 24, 2014 Share #3 Posted August 24, 2014 A great shot. You must have been rather close to the elephants with the lens you were using. Paul
Michael Hiles Posted August 24, 2014 Share #4 Posted August 24, 2014 Love the picture. What impressive animals. The poaching is a criminal tragedy that should be stopped by the strongest means available.

M Kenya Posted August 25, 2014 Author Share #6 Posted August 25, 2014 Thanks for comments - Sadly I've just heard of another elephant poached in Kenya, Conservationists now believe it's reached the point where more elephants are being killed than are being born at the moment :-( Phil

Tom Barry Posted August 25, 2014 Share #8 Posted August 25, 2014 Super shot. I hope there will still be elephants in the wild in another 25 years, when I have read it is predicted there will be none left.
Michael Hiles Posted August 25, 2014 Share #9 Posted August 25, 2014 I hope there will still be elephants in the wild in another 25 years, when I have read it is predicted there will be none left. As I understand it, poaching increased dramatically when elephant ivory was allowed to be sold some years ago. When there was an effective blockade of the market for ivory, poaching declined precipitously. The lesson seems to be - eliminate the market.
Michael Hiles Posted August 25, 2014 Share #10 Posted August 25, 2014 I hope there will still be elephants in the wild in another 25 years, when I have read it is predicted there will be none left. As I understand it, poaching increased dramatically when elephant ivory was allowed to be sold some years ago. Prior to that, when there was an effective blockade of the market for ivory, poaching declined precipitously. The lesson and the answer seems to be - eliminate the market.
