tashley Posted May 4, 2007 Share #6 Posted May 4, 2007 Rotfsmswl :D This is so very very funny. The number of times I have sanity checked my FrankenM8 with its hand grips and magnifiers and (Franken)finders and all the other bolt-ons and thought, Lord, what AM I DOING with all this stuff? But it's fun, and finally, like in the good ol', if you pay attention and take measures, you get better results. Still loving it. Thanks for the ubergiggle. t
jrc Posted May 4, 2007 Share #7 Posted May 4, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) If you epoxy a 3M lens-cleaning cloth to your nose, you don't need all the tissues for the LCD. You also get sympathy from those who believe in diversity. 8-) Add to the list: -A stick to fight off members of the opposite sex attracted to the prestige of the red dot on your Leica. -A wallet card which says, "I am a Leicaphile. In case of emergency, please ship my M8 to New Jersey via Registered Mail. If you find two broken Leicas with my body, just let me die." -Tiny piece of steel wool with which to scrub off the corners of your M8 so it will look used. -A very small bag so you'll be discreet; a man servant to carry the rest of the kit. fordfanjpn Posted May 4, 2007 Share #8 Posted May 4, 2007 Great list. But you seem to have left out a second M8 and a film body for backup! Bill

Bill W Posted May 4, 2007 Share #11 Posted May 4, 2007 Guy, It was great talking to you last week. I guess I am lucky, I switched careers 8 years ago and my wife did not, she makes twice what I do so she shops and shops and shops. I do not mind it. I handle the finances and pay the bills. I occassionally tell her "Honey there is too much money in our account" would you please go shoping this weekend!! I bought her a Mac laptop for Valentines Day that she is crazy about. I bought her a Nikon D40X that she is crazy about. Needles to say, it is no problem buying M stuff. Of course we have no kiddos to put through college so that certainly makes a difference as well. All I really want is my two Leica filters though.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted May 4, 2007 Share #12 Posted May 4, 2007 Me too Bill , just want my 49,55 and 60mm. LOL Honestly you and i had a nice conversation last week on stuff and i did this for fun and maybe only becuase i am very happy with my decision to stick it out and make it my primary camera for work. I really am enjoying shooting now. You know after 32 years as a Pro this stuff gets second nature and boring like any job but just a change in gear and your attitude to shooting again is so much better but more important for me personally and i said this once before . I rarely shoot outside of work, kids , trips and such but the M8 has me out there with my camera in my hand when I'm off the clock. No other camera has made me happy to do that. Like my little trip to Mexico two years ago i brought nothing with me. Seriously and all joking aside the M8 has given me a fresh attitude and i am actually enjoying myself more. Anyone with a long career goes through major ups and downs and I am on a up beat and i think it will stay like that for awhile. It's all good

4season Posted May 4, 2007 Share #16 Posted May 4, 2007 You left an important item off the list: -Something better than the crappy original SD card cases, the ones which inevitably pop open in your camera bag, leaving your precious cards to collect at the bottom of the bag along with the balls of lint, old ticket stubs, spare change and other small items you forgot you had. That's not a camera bag, that's a handbag. (My girlfriend's most likely, where only the foolish dare to venture...)
wparsonsgisnet Posted May 4, 2007 Share #18 Posted May 4, 2007 Add: brunello di montalcino [This is a praticularly special red wine that should breathe for more than an hour to taste its best.] Guy, me too. Lots of gizmo's and having more run than ever before. I did a thread some time ago about this camera being required for pro's within 2 years. I still think it's unique, superb, and more damn fun than I can believe.
carstenw Posted May 4, 2007 Share #19 Posted May 4, 2007 Brunello, ah! I was in Montalcino with a friend a few years ago, and picked up a '97 Brunello at the old fortress. This is the year and wine type which received a 99/100 stars from the Wine Spectator, IIRC. I waited until a very special occasion to drink that one. The bottle cost me €37 but would probably sell for several hundred now. I should have bought a case
Bill W Posted May 4, 2007 Share #20 Posted May 4, 2007 Guy, Based on the list, I went ahead and ordered a Luigi half case, strap and even sprung for the battery/sd card case in aged brown. I have the Leica half case but I thought "What if I by chance I get another body?" I already have a case for it and either one would look great on chrome. Your 335i has a twin turbo 300hp straight six. I abused a demo coup back in November last year but they were on such a long back order, I bought something else.
