avsearle Posted May 5, 2007 Share #23 Posted May 5, 2007 I think black is very sexy and much more unobtrusive than silver. This is important in view of the type of world we live in.
avsearle Posted May 5, 2007 Share #24 Posted May 5, 2007 Well this is certainly true in the part of the world where I reside.

enboe Posted May 5, 2007 Share #26 Posted May 5, 2007 My $4795 choice was for chrome. As previously mentioned, the chrome camera gets noticed more, but is relegated to an antique by most viewers. People are curious and ask about the "old" camera, and are definitely not as intimidated as with my D2X. Just a camera for a bumbling old fool, and I won't correct their perception. Chrome definitely wears nicer. I have an early black M7, and after years of service, the black finish shows some wear, where my early current chrome MP also in my stable shows none. Looking at the cameras on ebay or the monthly camera show also supports the chrome wear resiliance, although the M4's and M6's have the handicap of being plated zinc vs brass. woodda Posted May 5, 2007 Author Share #27 Posted May 5, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks for the views and time spent commenting. I have gone for the chrome and a Cognac strap. It is working well despite my seeming poor eye sight which as many might have seen from another thread I blammed on the camera. Maybe I am just to old fashioned. wilfredo Posted May 5, 2007 Share #28 Posted May 5, 2007 Congratulations. I think you will enjoy the chrome. I originally wanted Black and found a Chrome when I set out to purchase the camera, so I grabbed it. I'm really happy with it, brings back memories of when most cameras were chrome, and with the Luigi half case and built in grip, it looks like a real classic. I love it. I'm also glad to hear it wears better. Cheers, Wilfredo Benitez-Rivera Photography
Guest Olof Posted May 5, 2007 Share #29 Posted May 5, 2007 A few weeks ago i saw at my dealer a black M, which looked very nice because you could see a lot of brass..very sexy..looks like the big adventure..
lars_bergquist Posted May 6, 2007 Share #30 Posted May 6, 2007 -----------'Looking at the cameras on ebay or the monthly camera show also supports the chrome wear resiliance, although the M4's and M6's have the handicap of being plated zinc vs brass. Early M4-P cameras, before 1984, had brass tops. If there is the traditional 'beveling' around the finder windows, it's brass. All M4 and M4-2 cameras had brass top plates. enboe Posted May 6, 2007 Share #31 Posted May 6, 2007 Quite right, sir. I re-read my post last night and noted the omission on which M4 variants had zinc top plates. Thanks.
