sillbeers15 Posted July 3, 2014 Share #261 Posted July 3, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) One observation on the new FW: You can now disable LV, using classic metering only. When you do so, you may still use the EVF even though LV is off. I find this quite useful as when using the EVF I do not need or want LV. With new FW, howdo you turn off LV? From 'Menu' or 'set' button? i don't seeem to find the path to deactivate LV. I only find the old way of pressing the EVF button and all imaging display goes into EVF while rear LCD remains 'off'. pop Posted July 3, 2014 Share #263 Posted July 3, 2014 No."top level of the card's structure" means exactly that. Do not put the file inside a folder, place it in the top level of the cards structure. You mean to say we are to move the file to the root which is clearly at the top? Some of us do not realise how weirdly confusing IT terms can be to the person not involved in its arcane rites. Well, it has been explained now and all is well now. swamiji Posted July 3, 2014 Share #264 Posted July 3, 2014 With new FW, howdo you turn off LV? From 'Menu' or 'set' button? i don't seeem to find the path to deactivate LV. I only find the old way of pressing the EVF button and all imaging display goes into EVF while rear LCD remains 'off'. Be careful, the Classic/LV disabled mode behaves differently when you have the EVF attached or not. if the EVF is not attached and you have it set to Classic/LV disabled, then it behaves as written. LV and Focus buttons are disabled and you cannot use the LCD screen for Live View. However if you have the EVF attached and Classic/LV disabled, then the LV button is disabled as is the rear screen but the EVF works for LV and the EVF LV button and Focus button both work. I really like this, because when I don't have the EVF attached it behaves much like the M9, but when the EVF is attached, it works more like the Visoflex, except it gives all the nice digital information, and Focus peaking. That way, when I pick up the camera, I know exactly how it's going to behave, just from looking at it. No surprises.
blueuser Posted July 3, 2014 Share #265 Posted July 3, 2014 To rirakuma I just tested my M. The framelines adjusts when lights changes. So no difference after FW upgrade.
Guest JonathanP Posted July 3, 2014 Share #266 Posted July 3, 2014 Just to fine tune Jaapv's steps - if you want to keep your file numbering, then add the following steps: I would say the trouble is people trying to open the file. The way to do this: 1.Format a card in the camera. 1a. take a picture 2.Put the card in the card reader, switch camera off. 3.Download the file from Leica's website. 4.Open the downloads folder. 5.Open the SD card. 6.Drag the file from the Downloads Folder into the SD Card Window, next to the DCIM folder. 7.Eject card properly. 8.Insert the card in the camera 9.Push Info, hold and switch the camera on. 10. After the update has completed, take a picture with the same card in the camera. That way you should end up with your file numbering continuing on as before. Peter H Posted July 3, 2014 Share #268 Posted July 3, 2014 So, having updated the firmware I discover I have lost all my settings and profiles. Is there a way to retrieve them or do I have to do it all over again? Thank you. Again.
jaapv Posted July 3, 2014 Share #269 Posted July 3, 2014 No - you should have saved your user profiles to an SD card before updating....

Peter H Posted July 3, 2014 Share #272 Posted July 3, 2014 Have a look at our own FAQ I simply followed Leica's instructions. (As kindly elucidated by Jeff, who quite reasonably wasn't to know or anticipate that I didn't realise it would wipe all my settings and profiles.) Am I really the only person to make such a mistake? Anyway, I don't want to make a big thing out of it. It doesn't take that long to re-set everything, but it might be a nuisance for some people as ignorant as me... rirakuma Posted July 3, 2014 Share #274 Posted July 3, 2014 To rirakumaI just tested my M. The framelines adjusts when lights changes. So no difference after FW upgrade. Thank you everyone that responded about the framelines. Its still much brighter than what I remember it to be, its not a huge issue I'll just have to get use to it. Its not on "max brightness" as I initially said it was to be but it just seems a lot brighter than what it was before.

rirakuma Posted July 3, 2014 Share #276 Posted July 3, 2014 Just to demonstrate the difference here's one from the M and one from M8. Both taken with an iphone, no editing. The M framelines was "clearer" than my M8 and M6 but now I find it distractingly bright. Welcome, dear visitor! Jeff S Posted July 3, 2014 Share #277 Posted July 3, 2014 Have a look at our own FAQ But now FAQ post #113 repeats, and somewhat changes, similar post #99. Post #113 adds steps to maintain the file numbering sequence, but that is not clarified in the title. Jeff

But you haven't clarified whether these seemingly brighter lines adjust to ambient light; that seemed one of your key concerns. Mine do. Jeff
Jeff S Posted July 3, 2014 Share #279 Posted July 3, 2014 (As kindly elucidated by Jeff, who quite reasonably wasn't to know or anticipate that I didn't realise it would wipe all my settings and profiles.) Am I really the only person to make such a mistake? Peter, I understood, but was only answering your direct question about getting the FW on the card, not preserving profiles, not preserving file number…or other issues covered in other comments, which prove you're not the only one. I don't set user profiles, content to work with basic camera settings. It took me less than a minute to scroll through my settings to get them back to my preferences. I had to go into settings anyway, since there are now some good new ones to choose. Jeff
rirakuma Posted July 3, 2014 Share #280 Posted July 3, 2014 But you haven't clarified whether these seemingly brighter lines adjust to ambient light; that seemed one of your key concerns. Mine do. Jeff Sorry I should have included that it does adjust to light but it seems brighter in all conditions. I initially thought it was stuck on brightest setting but I tested it today and the brightness responds to lighting conditions however it is much brighter than what I remember it to be.
