JackStantler Posted June 22, 2014 Share #1 Â Posted June 22, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, Â Ive got a question: Â Ive been reading about the Voigtlander 40mm Nokton, that i does not bring up the right framelines on Leica cameras. Â I would like to have some more info on this. Â So i know the M8 only uses the 6/8bit lens detector thing, and with the M9 you can select the lens you use in the menu. But you can manually code the lens for the M8 right, so that should not be a problem ? Â So when you do fit a 40mm lens on a M8,M9 or M leica body. Will the viewfinder select the correct framelines for it when you set it in the menu on the m9,M or code it on the M8 ? Â Thank you!

jlindstrom Posted June 22, 2014 Share #2 Â Posted June 22, 2014 I had the 40/1.4 Nokton when I had the M8. I filed the lens mount to bring up 35mm frames. I found it to be better than with 50mm frames as standard.
farnz Posted June 22, 2014 Share #3 Â Posted June 22, 2014 Coding doesn't set the correct frame lines, the lens flange does. Â Pete.
250swb Posted June 22, 2014 Share #4 Â Posted June 22, 2014 The 40mm Nokton will bring up the 50mm frame lines, so the view is accurate around the outside edge of the 50mm frame. So coding can be done, but it needs to be for a 50mm lens. You' cannot code the mount because there is a screw in the same place as the coding area. An alternative is to modify the flange so it will bring up the 35mm frame lines, which means you can enter a code for a 35mm lens, and the view will be accurate around the inside edge of the 35mm frame line. jaapv Posted June 22, 2014 Share #5 Â Posted June 22, 2014 Actually a 40 mm lens is a perfect match with 50 mm framelines in the original M8 viewfinder.
MarkP Posted June 23, 2014 Share #6 Â Posted June 23, 2014 For framing with the 2.0/40 Summicron-C I just guestimate extra space around the 50mm framelines for about half way to where the 35mm framelines would be and that's just fine. I don't use the 40 for precision framing.
tobey bilek Posted June 30, 2014 Share #7 Â Posted June 30, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Angle of view changes as you focus closer ( gets smaller). 50 will work for close, 35 for distance. Â If you purchase new mounts from ebay/jinfinance, the offending screw hole will be covered revealing only 5 holes. You may then code as desired. Â Keep in mind, the lens code must match the mechanical frame line connection provided by the mount. Â I would use as is, then manually hold the 35 selection for distance shots. Or code as desired matching flange, the use external finder the other.
