Anyone know of a photographer with a great sense of mood, tone, wrap of light and stellar composition who is making stunning images with this lens?....because in an effort to kill time while uploading to FTP, I found absolutely nothing but flat-tastic snapshots....

Kind of sad really...

I agree, and would question whether any of the images in this thread,at the resolution the Forum allows, look any different/better in comparison to other well taken images. But please enjoy your lenses!

On a Monochrom, the difference is more apparent especially when cropped. Not head & shoulders above the 50 Summilux though, but clearly at an advantage from ƒ2-4. After that, it's a wash (even against the ZM 2/50). From what I've seen on high rez monitors, subtler differences on color sensors but I imagine it was designed with the future in mind, 36, 50 and more MP's. Ming Thein said it best, we're at the "bleeding edge of return for your money".

Just post some crops or a link to full resolution from time to time like I did in 519.

Well I'm not such a photographer, and such photographers probably wouldn't get any advantage from an APO-50 to produce such images ;-)

Post #6 and the few subsequent posts compare identical subjects (albeit sometimes slight variances in lighting depending on cloud, although I tried to wait till cloud had passed) using the 2.8/50 Macro-Elmar-M, 1.4/50 Summilux, and 2.0/50 APO-Summicron on the Monochrome v1 at full size and 100% crops.

The little Elmar-M does pretty well.

You really begin to see the advantage of the APO at f/2.8; probably even for marked at f/2 vs the Summilux.

Jan, Just passing by and saw your last two here. I am not myself so interested in the glass (love my plain-jane Summicron) but so taken with the lovely tonalities you are getting was relieved to see that you were using the Monochrome!

That is a beautiful image. I recently purchased the 50 apo and am enjoying it on my M9, although not yet in B&W. I am impressed with how the crispness of the subjects contrasts with the blur of the background, all the more impressive in B&W. And the ladies look to be about the age of my daughter. Drat, I'm starting to see why people buy the monochrome. Very, very nice.

Having a second look the crispness of the APO is quite astounding. I will at least have a look if I have an opportunity at a Leica store or my local dealer to try one out! .....just for grins :)

Funny, I had the same impression when I was checking out Thorsten von Overgaard's latest blog entry. Was viewing it on an iPhone 6 Plus and the images had quite the presence and very different from what I'd seen of his work in the past; knowing Messr. v. Overgaard's predilection for the Noctilux, was surprised to discover they were mostly 50 APO images. Unlike the Noctilux, where the subject and the bokeh just about equally share the attention, the OOF on the APO recedes as a supporting element of the image created. It is quite an effect.

When in doubt - pack the 50APO. Terrific all-round lens. I had it on a SL last week and stitched this pano in Yarra Valley. 15 minutes of moving light, shadows, clouds and rainbows. And then it was gone. Love this combo.

It really is a great lens.  Here are a couple landscapes I took with mine.  First, on the hike to the "Base of the Towers" in Torres del Paine National Park in Chile.  This one was shot on the SL at f/5.6, 1/500s, ISO 50.

And this one was taken from the "Base of the Towers" reflecting pool.I was there at the wrong time of day so the shadows are not optimal, but it's a long hike up so there is little choice about timing unless one is willing to hike in the dark.  Leica SL, ISO 50, f/8, 1/500s.
