artdicted Posted May 13, 2014 Share #1 Posted May 13, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just got a used M8. I used to have one and loved it...But how it is in life - I have sold the M8 and ever since I have missed the character of the M8. Now I got one for a great price and in very good condition. What I need now is a lense. I am in between a 40mm Summicron and a 35 mm Voigtländer Color-Skopar. I used to have the Color-Skopar but I wished it would be a bit faster like a -cron. I could get a used 40mm Summicron for a good price - I just don't know if I can live with the Focusring... Does anybody know if it's possible to change the Focusring? ... and what do you think about the 40mm cron? Or do you think the cron is in the same quality as the 35mm Voigtländer Color Skopar? Advertisement Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Hi artdicted, Take a look here Leica M8 - 40 mm Summicron or 35mm Voigtländer Color Skopar. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted May 13, 2014 Share #2 Posted May 13, 2014 I don't like the CV's bokeh personally but the Summicron-C works fine on the M8. Just keep in mind that it brings up 50mm framelines normally so you could have to file the flange of the lens if you prefer 35mm ones. See: How to bring up 35mm framelines How to change the focus tab
jaapv Posted May 14, 2014 Share #3 Posted May 14, 2014 The Summicron 40 is one of the best suited lenses for the M8 in my experience. Provided one solves the filter size problem. I wonder what problem with focusring you are referring to.

steinknies Posted May 14, 2014 Share #5 Posted May 14, 2014 The Summicron 40 is one of the best suited lenses for the M8 in my experience. Provided one solves the filter size problem. I wonder what problem with focusring you are referring to. Same here. And in my experience, the filter size problem does not exist as well. I simply use my regular 39mm filters and screw them in carefully - just not too much. Never had any problems using this method! Go for the 40 Cron. It is the perfect, low budget match for the M8. artdicted Posted May 14, 2014 Author Share #7 Posted May 14, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) wow, thanx for all the feedback! It seems that i will get the 40mm... I don't know if I can manage the thing with the focus tab... But I am sure my Leica Store could solve this problem...
jaapv Posted May 14, 2014 Share #8 Posted May 14, 2014 The focus tab is the one thing I miss on many lenses that go without - it is one of the best ergonomic additions a lens can have. The one on the Summicron is just fine.

lct Posted May 14, 2014 Share #10 Posted May 14, 2014 Why so? I did not try this tip but i don't like much the focus tab of Summicron and Rokkor 40/2 personally.
