With the Leica T (Type 701) two lenses were introduced:

  • Standard zoom LEICA VARIO-ELMAR-T f/3.5–5.6 18–56 mm (eq. 28-85 mm)
  • Wideangle LEICA SUMMICRON-T f/2/23 mm ASPH. (eq. 35mm)

Two more lenses will be launched during photokina 2014

  • Wideangle zoom*Super-Vario-Elmar-T f/3.5–4.5/11–23 mm ASPH. (eq. 17–35 mm)
  • Tele zoom*APO-Vario-Elmar-T f/3.5–5.6/55–135 mm ASPH. (eq. 80–200 mm)

Our question to you:

Id love to have a 50/f1 or 50/0.95

If I could go crazy with my wishes, I'd like a 35/f1 or 35/0.95 or 75/f1 or 75/f0.95

Yes, the small size won't be possible but this is a suggestion and I will surely be the first customer for these lenses

I cast my vote for a fast-ish medium telephoto (equivalent focal length between 80 to 100mm, w at least f/2.8), but if limited to choices in the poll, I'd say the macro lens (which is something the M does not do well).

I voted for the macro, as the M doesn't do this well, I'd prefer it to be a least 2.8. Interesting to see which direction the lens development takes

Except for the true wide angles, there is the M line, e.g. the Luxes: 35 for 50, can't wait to try the 50Lux on the T... But i presume we are talking about true T designs, T mount, AF: my vote goes to a T 1.2 or 1.0 / 55, i.e 75 in 35 equiv, as well as a true macro 2.8/100 (Apo Elmarit new gen), i.e. 150 35 equivalent. And a 2/120 or 2.8/200 would be great, if the T goes into eye recognition AF mode... Then a 12 or 14 mm WA... Lets wait if the T system will grow: i'll start using it with the 50Lux and the 3.4/135ApoTelyt, e.g. Jono's hints...

I would like something fastish in the normal range so 35 (around a 50mm). would like f1.4 but f2 should be OK to keep the price sane.

Macro since a lot of the time is manually focused can be an adapted lens (I have the R 60mm macro elmarit).

Supplementing the capabilities of the M system would be most useful. That means macro and long telephoto. I currently use old Visoflex 65mm and 400mm to add these capabilities to my M-E. In the case of the "T" system, the 1.5x factor would be helpful in both applications.

My vote as well. A street/people lens. Focal length could be from 35-50 (or longer), wherever f1.4 would result in the best quality/cost quotient possible!

Anything that works great with live view has to be a shoe in so the following 3:

- Macro (I voted for that option)

- Wide angle zoom (already in there)

- Wide angle tilt shift.

would all be pretty compelling lenses for such a system.

I find this an interesting question. However, if I were at Leica, I would be trying to figure out how quickly I could develop long lenses and a long zoom for the live view M. I'm delighted with the results I'm getting with my M and I know that I would be interested in getting lenses that take advantage of what the M can produce. Gone are the days of being limited to 135mm. :)
