Well, that honeymoon didn't last long and now i'm back in the ranks. Got my M240 & 50 Summilux Asph today. I could give you a quick rant after fondling it for 5 minutes, but I don't think I could add anything that hasn't been said here already. Just because of the feeling with it. I didn't get inspired by it. Don't get me wrong, the A7 is a nice camera and the results with Fe55 are amazing, but I didn't find the pleasure to shoot with it. Interesting as since I bought the A7 and FE55/1.8 my lux 50 asph has only been out of the safe a couple of times. The only lenses I now use on the M are my 28 cron, WATE and occasionally the CV35/1.3 vII. As much as I like the M and the lux 50 asph form a aesthetic point of view I am getting a much higher hit rate from the A7 and 55. jlindstrom Posted May 1, 2014 Author Share #9 Posted May 1, 2014 Well, for one using A7 results might have been different... I had the A7r and it was too much for me to handle. I was getting unsharp/shaky photos hand holding at quote high shuttee speeds for example. Also in the end the conputerish user interface wasn't for me. I've used rangefinders for the past 4 years and got to really love the simplicity. Much more than I anticipated, otherwise I would have known from the start the change to sony was doomed. And also the feeling part.. probably due to the issues mentioned above, I never "bonded" with it. I was taking other cameras out and leaving the A7r home, because I didn't want blurred photos or I figured some other excuse. The 24-70 oss zoom was my probably last mistake. It made me instantly and inherently lazy being bolted on the camera.. should have really used that as the last resort lens and pushed myself to using 35/55 fe primes instead, just to get rid off some of the lazyness. And there were other things as well.. but as you see, most of these things having little to do with the camera and a lot to do with me as a person. I still regard the A7 duo as really good, high quality camera systems - just not for me! //Juha Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

But as said not everything is about details and sharpness, behind the shooting experience need to be a joy. And I didn't have with the A7, maybe in a future body. I would agree that there is nothing quite like the feel of the leica M, the looks, finish and while the shooting experience can be a joy when working I just feel I can now trust the results I get from the A7 so much more and when working it is the end result that counts. The Leica will always remain an object of joy,desire and pleasure but I'm afraid the A7 (at least for me) is just becoming a much better working tool for most occasions. Meaning he's got countless of hours of more experience and infinite ammount of more capabilities to handle the A7, than a 100% hobbyist/Leica afficionado like me. Probably sticking with the A7r and spending hours and hours shooting with it would have helped me & results greatly but those hours wouldn't have been very enjoyable - fighting to get the best out of the camera. Instead now I can just take my photos and immediately enjoy the experience. As said, I should have understood this from the beginning and not go for the Sony in the first place. It was a personal mistake. Viramati: doesn't it disturb your work switching between two so different systems when shooting? Most of the time the 28 is on the M and the 55 on the A7. Sometimes I use the CV35/1.2 on the M and the 55 on the A7. When doing Landscape work I will carry the WATE on the M and the FE24-70 on the A7 and will have the api-telyt 135/3.4 in the bag along with the 55. What I like as well is that fact that they have the same size sensor which makes the PP workflow a lot easier. My main problem in handling with the A7 is that the aperture wheel goes in the opposite direction to leica lenses and the lack of a DOF scale on the sony lenses. I am thinking of getting a 2nd A7 body so that at times I will drop using the M apart from slower work and when I need the super wides Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
