Advertisement Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Hi Chito, Take a look here New Russar+ 20mm f/5.6 from Lomography. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Paul J Posted April 10, 2014 Share #2 Â Posted April 10, 2014 I think it looks terrible. But it's Lomo so I think that's the point. Some people like that.
Chito Posted April 10, 2014 Author Share #3 Â Posted April 10, 2014 I guess my question was more as an option for a cheap ultra wide angle.. and what the reputation of the original Russar was (although from the bit I've read, it's supposed to be pretty good). Â I think the terrible part you refer to is from the processing no? Â I just looked up the Voigtlander Skopar 21mm f/4 and realized that it is actually cheaper, faster, with good reviews.. sooo.. it definitely doesn't seem very interesting now. mmradman Posted April 10, 2014 Share #4 Â Posted April 10, 2014 Lomo deserves credit for providing decent set of demonstration pictures to go with new lens, something big Japanese companies fail to deliver at times. Â Some of the images clearly showing lens limitation or creative appeal depending on end user preference. I would imagine on any M full frame colour sensor images would be wrapped in big Italian flag.

swamiji Posted April 12, 2014 Share #8 Â Posted April 12, 2014 This looks as if it's for Film Bodies anyway. I am pretty sure it won't work on a Digital M... Â It looks as if it protrudes too deep into the body, it might damage the shutter...

jaques Posted April 16, 2014 Share #10 Â Posted April 16, 2014 they claim it will work on digital bodies- to my eye it doesn't look like it will go too deeply into the camera- but not sure. And for what it is worth I think it actually looks quite good- brass body- nice looking glass... Shame the aperture ring is hard to access though... Erik Gunst Lund Posted April 16, 2014 Share #11 Â Posted April 16, 2014 It fits on any Leica M. Â Â Funny lens for those creative moments...
AlbertTRAL Posted April 18, 2014 Share #12 Â Posted April 18, 2014 (edited) Well, with 10.98mm of backfocal distance it does not give much expectations... although I have just seen a couple of pictures with an original Russar on a Ricoh GXR M module, and shows no color cast or smearing... CrisRose Posted April 19, 2014 Share #13 Â Posted April 19, 2014 As soon as I saw it, I instantly thought that the CV 21/4 Skopar I just traded in was smaller, faster, cheaper and better that this... lens? Â Oh and you don't have to reach into it to change the aperture.
Alberti Posted September 13, 2014 Share #14  Posted September 13, 2014 It is an interesting lens, nothing related to Lomography, as far as I can see some examples and the MTF chart. But they try to keep their market image by having it used by youngsters in the streets, on their skate boards etc., as a lens for low-fi video's on poor platforms (maybe costing less than half of this lens).  So it looks serious, but the proof is if there will be a rangefinder coupling for the M-bayonet. Else it is quite worthless. I don't like point 'n shoot out of focus lenses  I never took the Heliar 15mm serious (too tight tolerances) but when I bought one a few years ago I was stunned with its quality (albeit at F8.0). farnz Posted September 14, 2014 Share #15 Â Posted September 14, 2014 From the accompanying pictures if you're keen on heavy vignetting, reduced contrast from veiling flare, spectral highlights, aperture ghosting, mushy corners, coma, spherical aberration and high distortion then this is the lens for you. But then, that's the signature 'magic' of Lomo. It is what it is. Â Pete.

farnz Posted September 16, 2014 Share #17  Posted September 16, 2014 All true except for high distortion. It's a symmetrical design. Hmmm … I can see plenty of barrel distortion in the picture with the orange and yellow trucks. Perhaps it's a 'Lomo symmetrical' design.  Pete.

Zero distortion. Straight lines all over. [But plenty of other "interesting features"]  [The lens coded as Tri Elmar/18mm is corrected I think a lot in the camera; the M9M files have less latitude than other lenses. ] Edited May 18, 2024 by Alberti
Alberti Posted May 18, 2024 Share #20  Posted May 18, 2024 At f5.6 the lens is rather 'Mwah'. But at F4.8 like the EXIF of the next one says, it becomes rather interesting . . .😋 Welcome, dear visitor!
