Gobdulm Posted April 5, 2014 Share #1 Posted April 5, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Designed and manufactured in Germany. After having spent 65€ on a handle, that is theft, the original home of the Leica, this is the result. Who is the genius who put a ring of steel around? To what end? To scratch the camera? Well he has. As wear numbers, there it is. In a few months will return all warranty and they manage. The Leica lenses, they will designed with the same care? Panasonic alive. Amen. viramati Posted April 6, 2014 Share #2 Posted April 6, 2014 Is that the leica strap? More to the point would be the painted numbers coming off the aperture control dial as soon you wan't be able to tell the setting!!
jaapv Posted April 6, 2014 Share #3 Posted April 6, 2014 No, it is not the Leica strap. That split ring looks el-cheapo with sharp ends.
MarkP Posted April 6, 2014 Share #4 Posted April 6, 2014 I agree that the painted numbers coming off the aperture dial is of concern.
250swb Posted April 6, 2014 Share #5 Posted April 6, 2014 I think it is the Leica strap, split ring and all, but I don't understand how the end got into contact with the body to scratch it, unless while mounting the strap? Steve
Gobdulm Posted April 6, 2014 Author Share #6 Posted April 6, 2014 It is the original Leica strap and it has been since well after three months of use. The steel ring ends scratching the camera. Lee Martin Posted April 6, 2014 Share #7 Posted April 6, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) This might be why it's not selling in anything like the numbers they hoped and have now reduced $500 dollars off the price. It's getting a bit tiresome hearing how these items are made to the highest possible standards and are the epitome of photographic equipment, to the see yet another quality control issue. It's nothing out of the ordinary in a lot of cases but at vastly higher prices.
pop Posted April 6, 2014 Share #8 Posted April 6, 2014 It is the original Leica strap and it has been since well after three months of use. The steel ring ends scratching the camera. Are you quite sure that the strap is supposed to be mounted this way? It looks upside down to me.
elgenper Posted April 6, 2014 Share #9 Posted April 6, 2014 .... That split ring looks el-cheapo with sharp ends. Well, both the Monochrom original strap and the Leica wide leather strap come with rings that could gouge anything… El-cheapo is the word! My "solution": put a short piece of shrink tube on the ring, so that it covers the ends, and warm it carefully, without overcooking the camera itself; you want it rare, don´t you... (obviously the ring has to be in place first…. ). For me, it has proven quite durable. This is how it looks on my Monochrom:
Gobdulm Posted April 6, 2014 Author Share #10 Posted April 6, 2014 The correct method of attachment, in my opinion, is not the photo. The well placed to make it look good, "get the picture". If you place it so the handle, to take back the ring twists and end up near the side of the camera, in leather. Anyway it is a botched handle. Gobdulm Posted April 6, 2014 Author Share #11 Posted April 6, 2014 This is what happens when you bring it back. The handle is twisted. And the ring end up damaging the skin. It is poorly designed. waloszek Posted April 6, 2014 Share #13 Posted April 6, 2014 The Peak Design straps offer a similar solution: Best regards, Gerd (Sorry, I don't know how to embed am image...)
B-A-C Posted April 6, 2014 Share #14 Posted April 6, 2014 Sorry about the scratch. The only strap I've ever loved is the Luigi. His design is genius to avoid potential scratches.
Nick_S Posted April 7, 2014 Share #15 Posted April 7, 2014 I've already gone to turn. Gentleman, ,,, The greatest ideas are the simplest. Could you indicate what this leather strap with cord attachment is and where it is available from? Nick
wda Posted April 7, 2014 Share #16 Posted April 7, 2014 Are you quite sure that the strap is supposed to be mounted this way? It looks upside down to me. I have a similar one for my X1, replacing the original with a braided wire loop. If you remount the ring so that the strap points upwards, the metal ring comes nowhere near the camera body. The flap protects the camera.
