Northwest Wanderer Posted March 26, 2014 Author Share #12 Posted March 26, 2014 Thank you Iduna, The duck looked so small compared to the swans. It helped make the shot more of a fun image.
fotografr Posted March 26, 2014 Share #13 Posted March 26, 2014 Hey, if it walks like a swan and talks like a swan, it must be a swan. Pretty funny shot, except for the fact that you still have all that ice. That's not so funny.
Northwest Wanderer Posted March 26, 2014 Author Share #14 Posted March 26, 2014 Brent, you're funny. How these birds can stand on ice and swim in icy water is amazing to me.
fotografr Posted March 27, 2014 Share #15 Posted March 27, 2014 Brent, you're funny. How these birds can stand on ice and swim in icy water is amazing to me. Actually, the problem the swans and geese run into is that they need an expanse of open water to take flight. Sometimes they land on frozen lakes like the one in your photo and are unable to get back into the air.
Northwest Wanderer Posted March 27, 2014 Author Share #16 Posted March 27, 2014 Actually, the problem the swans and geese run into is that they need an expanse of open water to take flight. Sometimes they land on frozen lakes like the one in your photo and are unable to get back into the air. Good information Brent. The area where I photographed had a lot of open water. Thinking about it, they did land and takeoff on the water, not the ice. I'd never given that a thought before. Always fun to learn. Thanks for bringing this up.
