wattsy Posted March 13, 2014 Share #21  Posted March 13, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Perhaps I'm being naive too, but if a price seems too good to be true (£150 less than anywhere else), then it probably is. Margins are tight these days (and have been for a long time in photographic retail).  The kit in question is, I think, in the £1500 or so price bracket. I see a fair bit of variation in prices for this kind of gear and I certainly wouldn't think one dealer's price being £150 cheaper than another's as being a price "too good to be true". It's not like seeing a 40" TV advertised for £4.99 on a retailer's website and then demanding that they honour the price.
topoxforddoc Posted March 13, 2014 Author Share #22 Â Posted March 13, 2014 Thank you all for your words of support and advice. After a fortnight of friendly and polite negotiation, I am delighted to report that the retailer has decided to honour the original sale. The correct kit is arriving tomorrow - hurrah! Â I spoke at length yesterday late afternoon to one of the managers. I asked her to contact the MD by email, and she received a reply this morning. The MD has authorised the exchange and delivery of the correct Elinchrom lights at the original quoted price. I must offer my thanks to him/her for their common sense view and I will be very happy to consider shopping there again. Â Charlie
earleygallery Posted March 13, 2014 Share #23 Â Posted March 13, 2014 That's good news Charlie and more like the response I'd expect from Park. The first person you spoke with was probably trying to cover their own arse!
wlaidlaw Posted March 16, 2014 Share #24  Posted March 16, 2014 Charlie,  I am delighted this has been resolved and have to admit to being pleasantly surprised that this has had a satisfactory outcome. I have dealt with Park Cameras since the early 1970’s, when they just had the single shop in Park Street in Burgess Hill and did not even offer mail order. They used to be a typical, friendly and enthusiastic local camera shop. Over the years I have seen them metamorphose into an online box shifter and the level of knowledge of many of the staff has declined markedly. When I go in there now, I always wait for one of the two long serving staff members, who know what they are talking about and what their stock is. Maybe with an MD like they seem to have, is why they have survived when many others have gone to the wall. Well done for your patient negotiation.  Wilson
