PeterP Posted March 12, 2014 Share #1 Posted March 12, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am not sure if this has been discussed previously, but it seems to me that it would be helpful if one were able to customize ones manual lens selection menu. That is, being able to select 4-6 lenses from the extensive list, creating a short list from which to select when you are changing lens. I find it very cumbersome to scroll through the long list to find the 3-4 that I use. Fuji has a similar option which is activated by their M-X adapter. Advertisement Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 Hi PeterP, Take a look here Manual Lens Selection - Customizable Menu. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest redge Posted March 12, 2014 Share #2 Posted March 12, 2014 It's been awhile since I've read the manual, but have you looked at whether you can use the four or five preset configurations that you can set up to select specific lenses?
swamiji Posted March 12, 2014 Share #3 Posted March 12, 2014 Lens selection is saved with the Profiles, but so is WB, ISO, etc.
jdsheepdog Posted March 12, 2014 Share #4 Posted March 12, 2014 I am still playing with this, but yes, there is the ability to use the three available "profiles" to set up for three uncoded lenses. I am coming to the conclusions that coding the lenses is the better bet, and using the profiles to switch quickly from film type and to "where and how" rather than using the limited profile capability up on lenses. Bill W Posted March 12, 2014 Share #5 Posted March 12, 2014 Personally I doubt that Leica will offer such an option within the firmware. Most folks were glad to have the manual option available. What folks would like to have it when a coded lens is attached, the manual option is off and the code is recognized rather than needing to go back in and turn it to automatic. I hate it when I manually code in my 90mm Tele-Elmarit, and then change the lens on my M9 to my coded 24mm Elmar but forget to switch back to "Automatic" and shoot my 24mm Elmar now coded as the Tele-Elmarit:( Guy

Sounds fine in theory until you have a lens which, for whatever reason, is mis-read by the camera - dirt on the mount, strategically placed screws. You'd need an option to override the camera's mis-read which is what the manual option gives you.

swamiji Posted March 14, 2014 Share #11 Posted March 14, 2014 Too bad you can't code every Leica M lens, and not every Leica M lens is in the manual selection.
lct Posted March 14, 2014 Share #12 Posted March 14, 2014 True but you can code them as another lens generally.
