Guest Ansel_Adams Posted February 27, 2014 Share #3 Â Posted February 27, 2014 Thanks, I was thinking of what liquid to use to clean the greasy oil that has built up on the outside of the viewfinder glass from hands/fingers, etc. Â I do wipe it with a soft cloth but this doesn't remove the grease... needs a bit deeper cleaning without damaging the glass. earleygallery Posted February 27, 2014 Share #4 Â Posted February 27, 2014 I'd suggest those 'wet' lens tissues, or lens cleaning fluid but wet the cloth/tissue rather than dripping it onto the camera. Failing that a baby wipe!
Humood Posted February 27, 2014 Share #5 Â Posted February 27, 2014 I bought a Zeiss lens cleaning kit it comes with everything you need. My My Billingham always has a good size microfiber cloth. Â Â Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

250swb Posted February 28, 2014 Share #10  Posted February 28, 2014 Hi there, I notice my M6 glass frequently becoming dirty and wondered what people are using to clean the outside surface?  It depends what I've been eating when out photographing. McDonalds supply soft napkins that get rid of burger grease. But usually I'm out in the middle of a field and viewfinder grease is made up of mayo or other things that spill out a sandwich. In which case a fleecy sweater is as good as anything, the back of a fleecy glove (if you haven't wiped your nose on it) or in the summer I have a Rohan brand 'outdoor' shirt that actually has a spectacle/lens cleaning cloth sewn into the hem, a terrific design unless you tuck your shirt in. Almost anything will do, I have even used somebody's curtains (when they weren't looking), but the one thing I don't use is my primary lens cloth.  Steve
honcho Posted February 28, 2014 Share #11 Â Posted February 28, 2014 A lens cloth moistened with ipa. Â ( I expect to be told it's a waste of ale.....).
imsilly Posted March 1, 2014 Share #12 Â Posted March 1, 2014 Remember blow on the glass well to remover grit and rub gently and for as little time as possible. Lense and viewfinders became dull with excessive cleaning. Especially when course material like grip is being rubbed against the glass. Â I find internal dust a bigger issue then dirt on the outside. NJH Posted March 1, 2014 Share #13 Â Posted March 1, 2014 I have a bad habit of straying a finger onto the little window for the RF patch but generally keep the viewfinder pretty clean. I just use a microfiber from a Fuji lens cleaning kit and some breath haze, very rare it gets greasy enough to need lens cleaning fluid. Â I concur about dust inside the thing, oddly my M8 has some but my M6 looks clear. One has to wonder how on earth it gets in there.
TomB_tx Posted March 1, 2014 Share #14 Â Posted March 1, 2014 Also, with conscious effort develop handling habits that avoid contact with the windows so they don't need cleaning. Having used M models for 50 years I rarely get them dirty without having to think about it. Normally mine need cleaning only after someone else picks up the camera - and then it happens almost every time.
rulnacco Posted April 19, 2014 Share #15 Â Posted April 19, 2014 I always wear a 100% cotton T-shirt as my bottom layer of clothing when out shooting, especially one I've owned for years so that it's been laundered/worn quite soft. I always just pull out the hem of that and use it, and the warm breath technique, to clean the finder.
250swb Posted April 19, 2014 Share #16 Â Posted April 19, 2014 especially one I've owned for years so that it's been laundered/worn quite soft. Â If only mine would come out soft, mine go like cardboard, what do you wash it in, do you use a conditioner? Â Â Steve
rulnacco Posted April 19, 2014 Share #17 Â Posted April 19, 2014 No, just straight up laundry detergent, lol. The ones I'm talking about have been worn dozens and dozens of times--trust me, they'll get nice and soft, I think it means they're on the verge of falling apart and maybe I should buy some new ones.
