SF58 'ERR'

SF58 6 months old, used with M9. Working fine this afternoon but this evening the zoom reflector doesn't seem to work:

  • In (soft) automatic zoom (which requires the flash to know which lens is attached) mode it shows 'SoftERR';
  • In manual mode (which does not rely on a flash-camera link) it shows 'ZoomERR';

It is therefore not possible to tell the reflector setting.

I have tried, but with no effect:

  • Changing the camera lenses (50 and 75mm respectively). The camera is registering the different lenses, but this makes no difference to the flash.
  • Changing batteries. The 'low' indicator came on this afternoon, but the flash worked fine.
  • Switching the unit off and waiting for 10 seconds (as suggested in the instruction manual). There does not appear to be any other way to 'reset' the unit.

Any suggestions?

Bill - Thanks. Yes, have done so (or rather have contacted their local agent) and the flash will be going for inspection in the next few days. I'm not in Europe or the USA, so this process is not so straightforward!

(Almost) needless to say, the agent had never heard of this problem and I doubt they had contacted Leica themselves. Nevertheless, given they weren't the company who sold the flash to me, they are being helpful.
