d-lux4 new

m9 new

m4 m6 used

lenses a mix of new (50mm lux, 18mm sem, 75mm cron, 35mm cron) and used (28mm cron, 90mm elmarit) bought new and sold 28mm elmarit, 90mm summarit, bought used and sold 135 tele-elmarit.

only had a problem with an m6 (counter), sent it to Leica NJ through Adorama (where I bought the camera), was taking forever, Adorama swapped the camera for a newer (still classic) m6. Good reason to buy used through a reputable builder.

Personally, aside from enjoying getting that new box to unwrap something for the first time, my bias has become to buy electronic cameras new, everything else used.

First Leica was a M2R I bought used in 1968. Then came a M4 in 1969 that I bought new and kept for 40 years. Then a M8 that I bought new. Then a M9 that I bought new and is now my only Leica... that is until this afternoon when my used S2 is due to arrive by FedX.

I'd like to add a MM and another M9 sometime in the next 2 years. I think I have enough lenses (5) for my M9 but will need to add a 35 and 120 for the S2. I'll probably buy them used.

I'll pass on the M. Didn't like the M5 either.

I have purchased both. Last was a used M8 that was and is fine. That was my entry digital. Took me 6 months to sort out the color issues with a lot of unexpected expenses.

All is well now and there are no short cuts. Buy the filters and code the lenses, then profile the camera with Adobe Profile editor.

I bought a new M9 P at the discount offered at the time. Nice camera without the major bugs of the M8. They had to replace the battery as the charger would not charge it. The M8 charger did charge it.

I purchased new and used film M. My advice is buy new. I spent a fortune on all redoing things and CLA. But id you wanted a M3 or M2 in 1980, there was no choice.

Then and now, quality use is priced too close to new. Buy new. Get the warrantee and keep Leica going.

If you are willing to take a chance on worn looking stuff, buy used. Actually if you can try it out, no problem. Someone may have used and loved it. But I have new looking older stuff and it turned out not to work as it should. Someone bought that and discarded it to the drawer. The widow eventually selling it off.

There can be no entry Leica. What can you cheapen or leave off so people would not complain. I am very unhappy over the USB port.

The advice is try before you buy, If not, buy new.

The only Leica equipment I've bought new has been my M6 and 50mm and 35mm Summicrons, in the mid 1990's. Oh, and the 150 Pradovit, and three pairs of binoculars.

All the rest, M2, M3 111f, 1f and M9 and lenses have been used: some from private individuals, some from dealers and some of the lenses from auction.

It's not that I wouldn't buy new now, but that what I have is perfectly good for what I do, and I cannot justify upgrading just for the sake of having the latest.

If you like what you have, keep it . Seriously. Sometimes we buy something new and it is not as expected and we fiddle with repairs and it never gets right.

In my opinion, you buy new to get a faster lens if you need a faster lens . At 5.6 they are all satisfactory except for a few CV lenses I would not sell. They seemed to work ok on film, not so hot on digital.

MP new. No problems though after 9 years I suspect it has developed a light leak.

M2 used. Needed a CLA but I expected that as it had sat unused for years

M9 new. No problem.

R6.2 used. No problem.

MM used. Bought off a friend for an obscenely low price as he just never bonded with it. Can't believe my luck. No problem but I've only had it a couple of weeks.

Since I was a teenager (many decades ago), I have bought and sold literally hundreds of film Leicas and lenses. I used to read Shutterbug when it was a yellow newspaper.

This echoes my own experience. Back in the early 70s, I worked in a camera store that sold Leica. I was selling Leica at age 15! My dad was a Leica guy and I learned from him. I was always around Leicas and selling them was a natural. I had my own M3 and Black Paint SL in junior high.

The memory of Shutterbug when it was a yellow newspaper really brought back memories. I was 26 when I opened my own camera shop with my dad, and of course I immediately applied for a Leica franchise and got one!

I was an active Leica USA dealer for over 20 years and used to advertise in Shutterbug back in the good old days. Stan Tamarkin, Don Chatterton, Jim Keel, King Grant (KEH), Ken Hansen, Leica Eddie Tillis until Leica made him stop using Leica in his name. We were all there and I developed many personal relations that lasted up to the current day. This was long before the internet or ebay. I had an 800 toll free number 1-800-755-LEICA. It was great and I loved every minute of it!.

Great story. At 16, I was a teenager selling cameras in the Midwest back in the early '70s as well and an avid Shutterbug reader. I likely drooled over your ads many times. Which store did you have?

I’ve only owned film Leicas.

M2 used though primarily now use my M7

M7 dealer demo with warranty

35 mm Summicron v1 used

35 mm Summicron ASPH used

50mm Summicron v1 used

50mm Summicron dual range used

90mm Elmar collapsible used

90mm Elmarit M used

I’ve never had a problem with any of these. I’ve never even needed a CLA on anything. Along with the image quality and my personal leaning to rangefinders, this is the major reason why I’ve always used Leica and will always use Leica.

As for a digital Leica, I need to get richer, though one may be out there in the future . . .

1/A Used (!)

M6 New (My first, and possibly best...) No problem ever.

MP New (À la Carte. Gorgeous.) No problem.

M9 New. Rangefinder needed adjustment at 2 years.

MM "U-Code" Leica-refurbished demo camera with 1 year warranty. Except for a few hundred actuations, it was indistinguishable from new. By the time I had it a week, I'd put more use on it than it came with. Although I usually prefer new, this was definitely worth it for the $1000. discount. Maybe even better than new, since it went in and got checked after the first several exposures. No problem.

very camera and lens I own and have ever owned has been used.

the way I see it if you are careful and buy with some warranty and that peace of mind that comes with purchasing from a reputable seller then it's no different than having a new camera that you've used for a while then started using again in my opinion.

At least you know it works!

I recently picked up my first Leica, a like-new-in-box M9. Guy had shot less than 1000 frames and stored it in his closet. I got it with all original packaging and paperwork, including receipt for around 60% of the new price.
