Jeff S Posted February 4, 2014 Share #2 Posted February 4, 2014 The next iteration will delete the dot for another 1000 Euros. Jeff
earleygallery Posted February 4, 2014 Share #3 Posted February 4, 2014 What's the '0' MM ? Even more money! Leica should just include those red self adhesive Leica dots with the camera and leave it up to the user to decide whether to stick it on or not. Of course that would lose them lots of valuable revenue for future P editions or whatever.

jcraf Posted February 9, 2014 Share #8 Posted February 9, 2014 I am off to Berlin for my annual visit next week. Naturally, I'm taking my MM, and was going to stick my head in this store (although their prices are a 'touch' high, for the used stuff especially) However, I am now too ashamed to visit, as they may spot my 'economy' MM, and pour scorn on me. Or even worse, eject me from the shop as a penniless undesirable.
Jeff S Posted February 9, 2014 Share #9 Posted February 9, 2014 However, I am now too ashamed to visit, as they may spot my 'economy' MM, and pour scorn on me. Or even worse, eject me from the shop as a penniless undesirable. Just tell them that you bought a red dot edition from another Leica shop, then paid Leica to customize it and have the red dot removed. I'm sure they'll just nod and consider you a typical Leica fan…then try to sell you a nice case to cover up the whole camera. Jeff
adan Posted February 9, 2014 Share #10 Posted February 9, 2014 Well, I'd be willing to pay, say, €500 each for Leica to put Monochrom top/bottom plates on my M9s, if they have some spares. I prefer black chrome to black paint (it wears better IMHO), and would be happy to get rid of the "full-frontal" advertising (a.k.a "red dot"). jcraf Posted February 9, 2014 Share #11 Posted February 9, 2014 Or tell them mine is an even rarer 'Black dot edition'. Black dot, with low profile, non-raised, black writing....
Jeff S Posted February 9, 2014 Share #12 Posted February 9, 2014 ... and would be happy to get rid of the "full-frontal" advertising (a.k.a "red dot"). You might consider just getting a black dot from DAG in the meantime. I got one for my black M for $40 and the subtle monotone facing makes a nice difference IMO. The black dot I got from him for my silver M8.2 cost only $22, which would be your likely M9 cost. Jeff
Nick_S Posted February 10, 2014 Share #13 Posted February 10, 2014 Well, I'd be willing to pay, say, €500 each for Leica to put Monochrom top/bottom plates on my M9s, if they have some spares. Would Leica be willing to do this? I find the idea of a black chrome, no-red-dot, M9 with sapphire screen very appealing. Nick
adan Posted February 10, 2014 Share #14 Posted February 10, 2014 Hi, Jeff - perhaos I should have said "ANY dot" instead of "red dot" - and it still doesn't solve the black-chrome problem. Nick - I suspect not. My rep said Leica wants the Monochrom "look" (no dot, no label, black chrome) to be unique to that camera - although that then raises the question of why they've added the premium red-dot version of the Monochrom (maybe they had extra M9 top plates laying around after it was discontinued?) [edit] - we should remember that top plates with a dot (any color) are machined differently than the Monochrom top plate. They have a ground-out circle into which the dot is cemented. Moncohrome plates have just a small thread hole for a screw.
Jeff S Posted February 10, 2014 Share #15 Posted February 10, 2014 Hi, Jeff - perhaos I should have said "ANY dot" instead of "red dot" - and it still doesn't solve the black-chrome problem. Yep, I knew what you meant, Andy. But I wanted to let you know that the black dot appears a lot closer to dot-less on a black camera. And for just over twenty bucks, why not consider? As far as the chrome, I suspect you don't like the silver version, as I'm sure you know you can upgrade to an M9-P, which meets your other criteria (although with some script on top), albeit at a higher cost. Jeff S Posted February 10, 2014 Share #17 Posted February 10, 2014 Black dot Leica M …and that lighting and contrast makes the dot much more flashy than it appears in person, as the camera paint is a flat matte black, and nothing is as shiny as the photo seems.
