lordofwar Posted January 21, 2014 Share #1 Posted January 21, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all, I've seen a strange problem with my M 240: it doesn't show the right frame line for 35mm lens. As long as I mount a summarit 35mm on the camera, it can recognize the lens without problem, but shows the 50mm/75mm frame line. If I push the "info" button, it shows a 35/2.5 lens has been detected. Really strange. I've tried manual, off, automatic lens detection, and even reset everything, it still shows the incorrect frame line. Anyone here has seen similar issue? Seems to me like a firmware bug...

jaapv Posted January 21, 2014 Share #2 Posted January 21, 2014 Does the lens click in correctly when you mount it? And do your other lenses behave normally?
sc_rufctr Posted January 21, 2014 Share #3 Posted January 21, 2014 What "jaapv" said... That sounds like a mechanical problem.
lct Posted January 21, 2014 Share #4 Posted January 21, 2014 Or your lens has the flange of a Summarit 50/2.5. Could you show it?
lordofwar Posted January 22, 2014 Author Share #5 Posted January 22, 2014 Yes, it's mounted correctly. Other lenses don't have the problem. I tried the same 35mm summarit lens on a M9 and the frame line is shown correctly, so it's not the lens. I'm sending it back to Leica for repair... Does the lens click in correctly when you mount it? jdlaing Posted January 22, 2014 Share #6 Posted January 22, 2014 If the correct frame lines show with other lenses I would suspect the Summarit. Framelines are purely mechanical and have nothing to do with the firmware.
StephenPatterson Posted January 22, 2014 Share #7 Posted January 22, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have had this happen a couple of times with my M240, and it's simply a mechanical issue of not having the lens fully rotated into the mount. It's a tight mount, and with some lenses there is not always a nice "click" into place, but you need to fully rotate the lens against the hard stop. jaapv Posted January 22, 2014 Share #8 Posted January 22, 2014 The click is not the hard stop. If you overrotate it you will (on many lenses) set the wrong framelines.
bephoto Posted January 23, 2014 Share #9 Posted January 23, 2014 The click is not the hard stop. If you overrotate it you will (on many lenses) set the wrong framelines. I confirm with a 35mm Pre-ASPH on M sometimes it happens if I pass the click, due to old and shaved lens mount
