Hello members,

I need an adapter to mount an Avenon 21mm on my M240.

Is this ring ok ? : LEICA ISOOZ 35MM /21MM / 135MM SCREW L39 LENSES TO LEICA M ADAPTER LEITZ ISOOZ M.

Could you advise me some adapters if this one is not right (Voigtlander ???) ?

Thanks.

You need one without the cutout.

The cutout on the ISOOZ is the one below the lettering Leitz Wetzlar Germany.

Look for one like this only 21mm:

Even though any will work ideally you need an adapter that will bring the 28mm frame line up in the viewfinder, which is correct for a 21mm lens, then you can code it and get some sort of lens correction. Codeable adapters are available on eBay but the code requires both the black markings and the frame line to be correct.

The picture of the 9cm one I posted was to show the adapter without the cutout.

If you need the one for 21mm the Voigtlander one should work fine.

Information here should help you:

The purpose of the cut out on the older Leica adapters, is to clear the infinity lock and focus button on older lenses, such as the 50/2 Summar and Summitar lenses. You cannot use adapters without the cut out on these lenses without a risk of the focus jamming.

I have used Jinfinance adapters, which are far lower cost than the Voigtlander but others have had problems with the Jinfinance ones. Heavystar are a reasonable middle ground between the cheap Jinfinance and the expensive Voigtlander. I have never had anything but satisfactory items from Heavystar. I recently bought a Series 5,5 to e39 adapter and e39 ventilated metal hood for my 40mm Summicron-C. Both were beautifully made.

The quality of adapters becomes less of a theoretical concern the wider the lens. If it doesn't have the cut outs, if it brings up the correct frameline, if it has some coding rebates, and if it is still all up shit creek without a paddle for anything like normal accuracy then at f/2.8 the DOF of a 21mm lens will sort things out. But it never gets to that stage, nobody, not even a backstreet Chinese sweatshop is going to set up a CNC lathe to churn out thousands of inaccurate adapters that may end up in the junk pile. Strange as it may seem even the Chinese people want to make a profitable business by their efforts, and gone are the days when the Chinese Government would try to sabotage free enterprise. They should be applauded and encouraged. And the question should be asked, where do Heavystar get their adapters from, and why do Jinfinance adapters look so similar? I suspect there is even a third, or fourth, party making everything to but slightly different specifications.

Steve,

I have a Jinfinance and a Heavystar LTM to M adapter ring. The Heavystar is definitely better finished and the chrome in particular looks more even/satiny. Unfortunately I can’t take a photo of it, as it is sitting on my old 50/3.5 Elmar, which I left in France by mistake. However, I can post some photos tomorrow showing the relative quality of the Voigtlander, Milich and Jinfinance adapters, all of which I do have. The Milich in particular is slightly too thick at 1.03mm. The Voigtlander and Jinfinance are the correct thickness.

I actually found I had 4 adapter rings, Jinfinance, Voigtlander, Milich and Adriano Lolli. Below are pictures of them. Images one and two are the Jinfinance on the left and Voigtlander on the right. Images three and four are the Milich on the left, Lolli on the right. I would rate them on quality:

1) Voigltander - not coded cut away 35/135

2) Lolli - not coded cut away 28/90

3) Milich (albeit 0.03mm too thick) - coded but does not work 35/135

4) Jinfinance - coded and works on all M’s 28/90

The two that are out of step price/quality are the Lolli and Milich as the Lolli’s are cheaper than the Milich was, when the Milich was about the only coded adapter ring you could buy in 2007. It was a waste of money as the coding slots were not sufficiently accurately aligned to pick up on my M8 and of course, Milich did not deign to reply to my emails pointing this out and the thickness error. The last time I would ever deal with him!

Can't he manually select the lens on the M ?
