peterwinge Posted January 18, 2014 Share #1 Posted January 18, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) My M 240 has suddenly lost the Automatic Focus Aid. I can switch it on of course by pressing the focus button, but when I turn the ring on the lens , as I did before and the focus aid used to start right away, but nothing happens now. I have tried: a. changing the lens b. changing the battery. c. changing the SD Card. d. I have updated the firmware 2.0.0.11 -> 2.0.012. e. I have used the "reset" option in the menu. Still in the menu it says : " Focus Aid Automatic" Can anyone help , please ?
Advertisement Posted January 18, 2014 Posted January 18, 2014 Hi peterwinge, Take a look here Lost Focus Aid !!. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
PetersDreams Posted January 18, 2014 Share #2 Posted January 18, 2014 What you need to do: 1) ensure focus aid is turned on in menu (set to automatic) 2) turn on live view 3) turn the focusing ring 4) you'll observe on the top of the live view screen the defined focus zoom setting (1x, 5x or 10x) which you can change with the rear wheel while it's shown I assume you just have set zoom factor 1x without noticing ... happened to someone I know better than my brother ... :-) Happy shooting Cheers Peter

And I have set the menu to " Autiomatic focus Aid" so...... any other suggestions from someone ??
Karl G Posted January 18, 2014 Share #4 Posted January 18, 2014 What apertures have you tried when using the FA?
peterwinge Posted January 18, 2014 Author Share #5 Posted January 18, 2014 I have tried them all from f/2 -> f/16, and unfortunately that didn`t do the trick
keithlaban.co.uk Posted January 18, 2014 Share #6 Posted January 18, 2014 Are you keeping the focus button depressed rather than just briefly pressing it? I don't have to touch the aperture ring, just a brief press on the focus button brings up the aid. I won't even mention that in the heat of the moment I sometimes find myself pressing the lens mount button in error

Rick Posted January 19, 2014 Share #10 Posted January 19, 2014 Thumbwheel. Turning it sets the focus aid to 10x, 5x and….0x 0x? I'm trying to imagine that. Blackness... a void... the absence of everything... 0... zip... nothing. Poof!
peterwinge Posted January 19, 2014 Author Share #11 Posted January 19, 2014 Before this started I didn`t have to push the focus button. As soon as I started to focus by turning the focus ring the Picture in the EVF changed. And that doesn`t happen anymore ! As I have written in my first post here I have tried to change everything I could, hoping to get this function back - but without succes. I can still achieve the 5x or 10x enlargement by pressing the focus button of course , but the Automatic function was very nice. ( and yes : I have enabled " Automatic focus Aid" in the menu !) has anybody else experienced something like this ??
lct Posted January 19, 2014 Share #12 Posted January 19, 2014 No but did you try to reset the camera? Don't forget to save your user profiles on the card before doing this though.
peterwinge Posted January 19, 2014 Author Share #13 Posted January 19, 2014 Yes - I have tried to reset the camera as well.
lct Posted January 19, 2014 Share #14 Posted January 19, 2014 Too bad. Is it the same with other lenses?
chris_tribble Posted January 19, 2014 Share #15 Posted January 19, 2014 Are you using an M lens or an R lens? If the latter, the focus aid won't be available. It only works with lenses that are activated by the cam on an M lens.
wlaidlaw Posted January 19, 2014 Share #16 Posted January 19, 2014 I suspect the micro switch that detects movement of the RF roller, has died or stuck. A trip back to Solms I am afraid. Wilson
