How many of you Digilux 2 users keep the standard lens hood on all the time? It's pain it's so large. The lens is quite sunken and I wonder if it is really necessary. I can't say I notice any difference in the pictures I take. Any comments would be much appreciated.

Always have the Hood in place on my D2 as it also acts as a Lens protector (to some extent) from greasy fingers. This fits nicely in the LC1 Leather Everycase.

I wish the D3/L1 lens hood was like that of the D2. Instead we get this dorky looking modern "Sydney Opera House" lens hood. In the 1st 3 months I've put too many finger prints on the L1 lens, which I am forever cleaning. Whereas with the D2 I've only had to clean it a couple times over 2 years.

I only take it off so I can screw on my polarizer and then reinstall it (just so you know, the Heliopan slim-mount polarizer will fit inside the OEM lenshood and leave enough room for the cap, whereas the thicker version will prevent the cap from being able to click into place. Of course, I believe they're both NLA, so this info tidbit is probably moot unless you're able to find a used one or are willing to pay the $199.99 the person listing NOS slim-mount Heliopans on eBay wants for one...)

Really. You can order B&W in any size at a normal prize at foto Huppert (and elsewhere as well I'm sure)

conventional equipment should work as well

anyone tried a Hoya Wide Angle Hood ?

step up ring 69-72mm,

run any filter,

use rubber hood that is better for protection as opposed to flare protection,

use clip in cap

I never use the hood, and have never noticed anything adverse regarding image quality. A plus of dispensing with the hood is that the D2 fits snuggly into a large-front M-series neoprene case (14868), and that's how I carry the camera if I'm travelling.

When traveling I use the hood to reduce the chance of accidentally touching the glass. When I carry it in my briefcase around NYC I usually don't have it so that the D2 fits in my briefcase.
