Leonil Posted January 1, 2014 Share #1 Posted January 1, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) So I was thinking, Ive only ever used the M a couple of times from a friend and I was thinking. I have a 50 summicron (chrome) lens that's uncoded, and have a Zeiss 28mm 2.8 on order. If say I have the 50mm frame lines on the rangefinder - selected via the menu, and I change lenses to the 28 and then select the lens via the menu, will I have to keep doing that EVERY TIME I change the lens to an uncoded lens? I know that you can have multiple frame lines on the view finder but In my experience the frame lines aren't digital, its all hardware. And seeing as the 50mm lines are on with the 35mm lines at the same time, how do I can organise my 28mm when paired with a 50mm? Or am I just dumb and its all taken care of already in the camera? Advertisement Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Hi Leonil, Take a look here Uncoded lenses and framelines. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
earleygallery Posted January 1, 2014 Share #2 Posted January 1, 2014 Frame lines are not set by any menu, they are mechanically linked to the lens mount. The lens you use will make the appropriate frame appear - as you know they are in pairs, as Leica can only fit so many masks in the assembly.

lct Posted January 1, 2014 Share #4 Posted January 1, 2014 Yes a 50mm lens will bring up 50/75 framelines and a 28mm lens 28/90.
microview Posted January 1, 2014 Share #5 Posted January 1, 2014 For the M9 at least, Zeiss suggests manually setting (menu) your new Zeiss lens as any of 21 2.8 Asph, 24 2.8 Asph (less good) or 28 2.8 Asph. Probably you should do the same with the M240. You may get better results setting the lens manually rather than leaving it as 'off'. Obviously you'd make the menu change when switching to 50mm. Reid reviews suggests some lenses do not need Lens Detection. As noted above this is not related to framelines but colour/vignetting corrections in-camera. Leonil Posted January 1, 2014 Author Share #6 Posted January 1, 2014 Yes a 50mm lens will bring up 50/75 framelines and a 28mm lens 28/90. Also. Does anyone know what at the widest possible frame lines on a M240... is it 21mm?

I got this tip from Thorsten Overgaard: You can use the user profiles. Make your favourite settings (ISO, WB, DNG, JPG, etc) and have a manual lens selection for the 50 Summicron, then save as user profile 1. Change the manual lens selection to something that fits the Zeiss 28, then save as user profile 2. Maybe a user profile 3 with auto lens detection. Whenever you change the lens, you quickly go via SET menu and select the respective user profile. Works for me.

Seems like a good idea - But Im hoping that when my 28 and new M arrives, I can just change lenses (Uncoded lenses) and not worry about telling the camera what to do. lct Posted January 2, 2014 Share #12 Posted January 2, 2014 Depends if your Biogon 28/2.8 has vignetting an/or color shift problems with the M240. If so, you might wish to code it like an Elmarit 28/2.8 asph according to Carsten Whimster (http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-news/leica-lens-codes/).
