Kena Posted December 23, 2013 Share #1 Posted December 23, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) A pleasant surprise was delivered today….my long awaited M-E ! I had sent my m8.2 to New Jersey for the coffee stain issue in october and the M-E was backordered, they could never tell me how long the wait was but today it arrived safely. In listening to all the internet B.S. I was concerned it would not arrive until february. Am I safe to sell all of my UV-IR filters? I see no need for them correct? earleygallery Posted December 23, 2013 Share #2 Posted December 23, 2013 I don't think the info that Leica can't get any new sensors at the moment is BS. Your M-E is probably a body that some dealer has returned to them as surplus stock.

Actually, when I spoke to Carmen at Leica New Jersey she said they just shipped a very large number of these out last week. Either way I'm happy! Erik Gunst Lund Posted December 24, 2013 Share #4 Posted December 24, 2013 Congratulations! You only need UV/IR filters for very critical images, especially for some types of artificial lights. For general use your perfectly ok without them.
Jeff S Posted December 24, 2013 Share #5 Posted December 24, 2013 The M9 and its M-E counterpart, as well as the M (240), can each benefit from UV/IR filters in certain situations, similar to the M8s, only to a lesser degree. The external filters do a better job of reducing IR contamination than the internal filters. Personal choice to use or not. Jeff

IWC Doppel Posted December 29, 2013 Share #8 Posted December 29, 2013 I sold all my UV/IR when moving from my M8 to M9-P and have no regrets tbh
Woolly Posted December 30, 2013 Share #9 Posted December 30, 2013 I would sell the IR filters straight away as the M8 accessory market must now be dwindling fast with the uptake of the M240 and bargain M9s. Anyone thinking of buying a used M8 would probably get the filters from the previous owner.
DigitalHeMan Posted December 30, 2013 Share #10 Posted December 30, 2013 FWIW I recently sold three 46mm UV/IR filters in eBay. Took me a couple of attempts to sell them, and bidders only showed interest once the starting price was reduced to 35 Euros

Your M-E is probably a body that some dealer has returned to them as surplus stock. FWIW, my M9 has been cued in NJ awaiting a sensor replacement since late September. No end in sight to the waiting as far as I can tell...
