M9-P too good to be true? Probably

Just ask yourself why anyone would sell an M9-P on ebay for £1000 when they could walk into a camera shop and get paid more than that on the spot for cash.

No, they 'don't know what they're selling' - if they can use ebay they can also research the item they're selling!

If it sounds too good to be true..........

I was scammed by one of the eBay "Power Sellers" on that very such item. They are getting very sophisticated, even setting up at (false) chat between you and someone at eBay that verifies the seller is legitimate and the deal is backed by eBay buyer protection. They even use the eBay logos in their response pages. I sent copies of all the pages and chat transcript to eBay, never heard back from them one word. Sent all copies and info of scam to FBI bureau that handles Internet Fraud, never heard back from them either. I sent the money and never received the camera. Hard for me to admit this, but don't want anyone else to be taken.

What payment system did you use, did you bid and win, or did you use a "Buy it Now" link on the Ebay auction page?

Sounds like someone hacked an existing account & you must have paid by bank transfer? eBay works well if you follow their rules. Paying by PayPal gives you protection against scammers.

I have previously posted my eBay do's & dont's on this forum. I've made hundreds of transactions and only had a couple of problems, both resolved for me by eBay or PayPal.

As one who has been ripped off in the past, I realised that my eagerness to get a deal that was too good to be true made me drop my guard and complete the Ebay transaction outside of the Ebay system. Lesson learned. Talk to the seller, agree any price adjustment, but only complete the sale using Ebay and Paypal facilities linked to the specific auction. Provided you have followed the Ebay purchase rules, if there's a problem, Ebay and Paypal will help and in some countries Visa and other card issuers may be legally obligated to compensate you.
