2wk Posted December 14, 2013 Share #1 Posted December 14, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does anyone use the strap that came with the MM? I haven't really. I tried a few times and the neck pad would always be flipped the wrong way around. Does it break in nice? Thanks.
Advertisement Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Hi 2wk, Take a look here Monochrom Strap. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
GaryMulcahey Posted December 14, 2013 Share #2 Posted December 14, 2013 When I got my MM I thought what a piece of shite this strap is. Then after a few weeks of use/break in it became a very supple leather strap. I rather like it now and wouldn't trade it in. G
jaapv Posted December 14, 2013 Share #3 Posted December 14, 2013 The same here. But the pad came apart so I removed it and never missed it.
jcraf Posted December 14, 2013 Share #4 Posted December 14, 2013 Mine's still in the box. Pristine. Just think what that'll to do help my resale value, should I ever need to sell my MM.......
MarkP Posted December 14, 2013 Share #5 Posted December 14, 2013 The same here. But the pad came apart so I removed it and never missed it. Ditto.
junah1 Posted December 14, 2013 Share #6 Posted December 14, 2013 Before I fitted it to my MM I ran it through my fingers for a few hours (whilst watching TV) and it became nice and supple, I like it so much, I got another to go on my M, it is very discreet. Ecar Posted December 14, 2013 Share #7 Posted December 14, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I was going to get yet another Luigi strap, then remembered I had bought an A&A black silk cord strap. Expensive, but beautiful and extremely comfortable, particularly when you want to wrap it around your wrist. Removing the unsightly A&A white lettering took a little while, though:(
pieterpronk Posted December 14, 2013 Share #8 Posted December 14, 2013 When I got my MM I thought what a piece of shite this strap is. Then after a few weeks of use/break in it became a very supple leather strap. I rather like it now and wouldn't trade it in. That's pretty much my experience as well. E_42 Posted December 14, 2013 Share #9 Posted December 14, 2013 Before I fitted it to my MM I ran it through my fingers for a few hours (whilst watching TV) and it became nice and supple, I like it so much, I got another to go on my M, it is very discreet. Same here; I really like it and am looking for another one for my new M () ... P.S.: Yes; mine has to be glued as well ...
platypus Posted December 15, 2013 Share #10 Posted December 15, 2013 I have never even unrolled my MM strap. When the MM arrived there was an AA silk strap waiting for it. I really like their straps, they are a perfect length for me and so easy to get along with. My M9 wears one too.
Guest jvansmit Posted December 16, 2013 Share #11 Posted December 16, 2013 I loved the strap & hoped it would last for a life-time but the pad separated after a few weeks, presumably because the glue doesn't like tropical heat.
2wk Posted December 17, 2013 Author Share #12 Posted December 17, 2013 Thanks for the advice! I'm going to give it some more time and see if I can break it in. I actually wouldn't mind if the neck pad fell off!
lanetomlane Posted December 18, 2013 Share #13 Posted December 18, 2013 Didn't realise the MM strap was leather as I never bothered unpacking mine. I use one of those A&A (I think it's called) silky things which I have on all my cameras (a red one on the M to match the red dot) and been happy with. Cheers, Tom
esquire53 Posted December 18, 2013 Share #14 Posted December 18, 2013 didn't liked the MM strap and used the one from my M7. I'm now looking at a shorter hand strap. Seems to be a bit like everything else. There's hardly a one strap solution
menos I M6 Posted December 18, 2013 Share #15 Posted December 18, 2013 I must have a dozen or more of the Leica standard nylon straps with quick release rings. Those are the best camera straps ever designed for compact cameras and I use them on all cameras I have. I never even looked at the strap that came with my Mono. It has to be attached with split key rings, as I remember which I consider a complete design failure.
2wk Posted December 18, 2013 Author Share #16 Posted December 18, 2013 Curious why split rings are a design failure? They eat lugs or something? Well, I gave it a shot... But I went ahead and just removed the neck pad. I'm liking it a lot better. Although, the plastic rivets bother me a bit.
menos I M6 Posted December 19, 2013 Share #17 Posted December 19, 2013 Curious why split rings are a design failure? They eat lugs or something?Well, I gave it a shot... But I went ahead and just removed the neck pad. I'm liking it a lot better. Although, the plastic rivets bother me a bit. There were developed several much better solutions to connect a strap to a camera body over the last century, but still today some manufacturers make do with the lesser method of cheaply using a split ring. Split rings are slow to use, a PITA to operate quickly, scratch the strap lugs during assembly/ disassembly, damage strap lugs over time and look plain ugly. They are the lazy engineers workaround and are absolutely loved by bean counters, as they are so cheap to source with no additional tooling costs required (think about plastic injection mould costs for Leica's quick release connectors and metal sheet series tools for example for Hasselblad's, Mamiya's or Rollei's quick connectors). I hate split rings.
semi-ambivalent Posted December 19, 2013 Share #18 Posted December 19, 2013 should I ever need to sell my MM....... It's early here, and I almost didn't get the joke.
derleicaman Posted December 26, 2013 Share #19 Posted December 26, 2013 I have a loaner Monochrom from Leica USA and it arrived with the pad already separated on one side. It is pretty crappy. The new strap Leica sells (18776 or 18777) is similar but superior in that it is stitched not just glued on the pad and strap. I prefer the AA Silk strap or their leather strap with pad. Its a pity that Leica charges so much for the MM, but ships with a s****y strap.
2wk Posted December 26, 2013 Author Share #20 Posted December 26, 2013 I decided to give it another try. This time I just took the neck pad right off before it has a chance to fall apart. I am liking it better. Leather is breaking in a bit.
