Marct40 Posted December 7, 2013 Share #1 Posted December 7, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all I have been trying to do some comparisons with different lenses 28mm summicron and elmarit as well as the 50mm summicron and apo versions. In the exif data fields it just tells me the focal length of the lens and not the type. I have tried aperture and light room but the lens data is missing from both applications. Not that helpful when you can't remember which lens took which pic Any suggestions of how to get this info Thanks Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Advertisement Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 Hi Marct40, Take a look here Exif file data M240. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
hermanp Posted December 7, 2013 Share #2 Posted December 7, 2013 You might try ExifTool. If that utility can not find what you are looking for in the Exif data it simply is not there. The interface is daunting, it uses the command line. A separate utility, Exiftool GUI, provides a graphic shell around Exiftool which makes things less awkward. Hope this helps,
wlaidlaw Posted December 7, 2013 Share #3 Posted December 7, 2013 Depends which software you are using. The Adobe software is drilling correctly down into the Maker’s Notes data to get the full lens data of focal length, max aperture and lens name, serial number of body etc. Others like Aperture and Capture One are not. I am currently working with Phase One to try and get this corrected. See example below of data shown in Bridge. My next project is to get the correct GPS data showing up in Capture One. thighslapper Posted December 7, 2013 Share #7 Posted December 7, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) There was another thread about this recently ....... LR does show the lens info if you set 'view' in 'develop' to show it ..... as below ......(this is an M9 image but MM and M are the same) ........ but as Wilson says it is derived from the makers notes, not the EXIF ....... However if you process the dng in LR and re-import as a jpg/tiff etc. the lens data DOES appear in the EXIF data if I recall correctly ..... ..... second pic is from an M240 image changed to JPG and imported to aperture.... furcafe Posted December 9, 2013 Share #9 Posted December 9, 2013 Good to hear I'm not the only person experiencing this issue w/Capture One. I notified them of the problem several months ago, but have yet to hear a response (though they did acknowledge my notification). It appears to be somewhat related to something in Leica's firmware as well, because it appears to happen mostly when manual lens detection is used. Depends which software you are using. It appears to be somewhat related to something in Leica's firmware as well, because it appears to happen mostly when manual lens detection is used. I have been working with Jakub and his colleagues at Phase One, since Capture V2 on various problems, providing them with files, data etc. Others have reported problems getting responses to queries but I have always found them very good. I will update everyone as soon as I hear back. Wilson
