Advertisement Posted November 10, 2013 Posted November 10, 2013 Hi bideford, Take a look here Coffee stain compensation. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted November 10, 2013 Share #22 Posted November 10, 2013 OK James no problem but we've got figures here already so i hoped you could add another brick to the bastion.
Tinribs Posted November 18, 2013 Share #23 Posted November 18, 2013 Or, you could just carry on using it and hope. The stain will not affect the files. My M8.2 developed the stain, but within 6 months it had disappeared again, never to return while I still had the camera.
earleygallery Posted November 18, 2013 Share #24 Posted November 18, 2013 Hi lct, No non disclosure agreement (I don't think I'm that important!) but simply out of courtesy to Leica, however by indicating that the discount was more than the market value of the camera (without coffee stain) I think I have struck a reasonable compromise. If Leica wanted to advertise their position on this then I am sure they would have by now. The fact is, for an out of warranty camera, Leica are not going to simply hand over a new M-E (or whatever). What they are doing is offering a fair (and it is!) discount on a replacement model should you wish to upgrade. After all the coffee stain is cosmetic and a lot of people seem to deride the usefulness of the lcd anyway. I only really used it to check framing, and if I wasn't already considering selling it for an M9-P I would have kept it. James Leica have quoted figures in the past although they vary depending on the country, the nature of the faulty camera - failed LCD, faulty/coffee stain or user damage, and the 'upgrade' offered, i.e. refurbished or new camera, M9/ME or M. Some have even been given new M9's in exchange for their M8's at no extra charge. It all depends.
Leonardo_alves Posted December 4, 2013 Share #25 Posted December 4, 2013 I had the same issue with my M8 two days ago. I´m waiting the values of compensation from Leica-USA to decide. Leonardo

k_g_wolf ✝ Posted December 5, 2013 Share #27 Posted December 5, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) >> Kena If your interest is strong enough I would recommend a pm to the owner of the coffee stain ... These are indivual offers which should not be dealt with on this marketplace. The exact sum could vary a lot, reflecting the techn. state and actuations of the camera, guarantee questions, etc. So your "case" might look much different. mbray Posted December 15, 2013 Share #30 Posted December 15, 2013 My 8.2 also has a coffee stain which grows and recedes according to the season. It has little effect on the use of the camera, except when showing a day's images to someone else. The bottom line is, can I afford even the upgrade cost, even if it's "reasonable" or am I better off keeping the camera? The only downside comes if I ever want to trade it in for another camera (e.g. Sony A7R) - what reduction in return would I expect to get? M8s are going for about £1300 in UK now - I haven't seen any 8.2s for a while.

The upgrade cost to ME is IMHO reasonable from what I've seen in these threads, but I wouldn't give up the sapphire glass. The upgrade to M9P would be what I would do if the stain bothers you. Other than that defect the 8.2 is a wonderful camera; I love doing portraits with it.
AlanG Posted January 9, 2014 Share #32 Posted January 9, 2014 FYI regarding lack of parts, Canon CPS informed me that they could not repair the AF motor in my 16-35 series I lens due to unavailability of parts. They wrote "The service life of this model has expired." My lens is 10 years old but it was discontinued in 2007. Canon did not offer me any kind of deal and the other service companies I contacted said they don't have the parts and can't get them. So Leica is not alone with this issue. jaapv Posted January 11, 2014 Share #33 Posted January 11, 2014 Kärcher (another respected German brand) refuses to repair my three-year old (expensive pro-level) high pressure cleaner for a broken switch because “repair is not economical ” They won’t even look at it…. AlanG Posted January 12, 2014 Share #34 Posted January 12, 2014 I have a broken Kärcher pressure washer too. I guess I'll just can it. As far as camera equipment goes, I think I'll try to "upgrade" any gear once it is discontinued. I now own a manual focus 16-35mm f2.8 lens that probably has little if any resale value. earleygallery Posted January 12, 2014 Share #35 Posted January 12, 2014 I bought a Canon AF zoom recently which had to go back as the IS was faulty. I took a refund and looked at a s/h L series zoom. Nice lens but Canon will no longer repair it. I bought a new Sigma instead as it has a 3 year warranty.

lct Posted January 13, 2014 Share #37 Posted January 13, 2014 My M8.2 develops the stain as well but i don't want to trade it for an FF cam so i think i will keep it with hope that the stain disappears soon or late. I don't use the LCD much anyway.
tenezus Posted January 13, 2014 Share #38 Posted January 13, 2014 You guys are very loyal to the M8. Do you have a website of your photos? How much would be the trade for...? Thanks
tookaphotoof Posted January 13, 2014 Share #39 Posted January 13, 2014 Did I read 'Kärcher'???? Mine died on me last year, although I have to admit I should have read the manual. Left in a shed during wintertime. Depending if and at what price Leica would let me upgrade my M8.2 I'd certainly upgrade it for full frame. Having said that, I'm glad mine still works perfectly.
