earleygallery Posted November 18, 2013 Share #24 Posted November 18, 2013 Hi lct, No non disclosure agreement (I don't think I'm that important!) but simply out of courtesy to Leica, however by indicating that the discount was more than the market value of the camera (without coffee stain) I think I have struck a reasonable compromise. If Leica wanted to advertise their position on this then I am sure they would have by now. The fact is, for an out of warranty camera, Leica are not going to simply hand over a new M-E (or whatever). What they are doing is offering a fair (and it is!) discount on a replacement model should you wish to upgrade. After all the coffee stain is cosmetic and a lot of people seem to deride the usefulness of the lcd anyway. I only really used it to check framing, and if I wasn't already considering selling it for an M9-P I would have kept it. James Leica have quoted figures in the past although they vary depending on the country, the nature of the faulty camera - failed LCD, faulty/coffee stain or user damage, and the 'upgrade' offered, i.e. refurbished or new camera, M9/ME or M. The upgrade cost to ME is IMHO reasonable from what I've seen in these threads, but I wouldn't give up the sapphire glass. The upgrade to M9P would be what I would do if the stain bothers you. AlanG Posted January 9, 2014 Share #32 Posted January 9, 2014 FYI regarding lack of parts, Canon CPS informed me that they could not repair the AF motor in my 16-35 series I lens due to unavailability of parts. They wrote "The service life of this model has expired." My lens is 10 years old but it was discontinued in 2007. Canon did not offer me any kind of deal and the other service companies I contacted said they don't have the parts and can't get them. So Leica is not alone with this issue. As far as camera equipment goes, I think I'll try to "upgrade" any gear once it is discontinued. I now own a manual focus 16-35mm f2.8 lens that probably has little if any resale value. Left in a shed during wintertime. Depending if and at what price Leica would let me upgrade my M8.2 I'd certainly upgrade it for full frame. Having said that, I'm glad mine still works perfectly.
