jdlaing Posted October 26, 2013 Share #2 Posted October 26, 2013 Does having a recent CLA increase the price enough to cover the CLA's cost? Thanks Bob That would depend on how much you are asking for the M9.
Jeff S Posted October 27, 2013 Share #3 Posted October 27, 2013 I only buy gear from dealers with warranty, and therefore prefer selling to them, since they will only re-sell with a warranty, thus commanding a higher price, and that won't happen unless condition is acceptable. So, I'd let the dealer make the call and decide if terms are acceptable. I recently sold a minty M8.2 to a dealer who re-sold the camera with warranty and gave me 87% of the purchase price that would not have been possible without the warranty (sold on their eBay site for more than agreed store price). Jeff Jeff I'd love to find a dealer that would give that much value - I realize it's apples to oranges but if you for instance sell on consignment the least I've been quoted was a 20% sellers fee to a whopping 30% sellers fee. So if you're lucky enough to get $5000 for an M9p you're paying them $1000-1500 and I don't know if the buyer is getting any more than a 30day warranty... Jeff S Posted October 27, 2013 Share #7 Posted October 27, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Jeff I'd love to find a dealer that would give that much value... Why didn't you ask? Popflash gives 87% if it sells in the first couple of weeks (can't remember if it's 2 or 3), then 80%. I made sure I priced mine right (even had them raise their initial quote and improve the marketing language, agreeing that both made sense), and it sold in only a day or two (at a higher price even than my already raised price). A little finesse and the result was much better than if I sold it on my own and got a few hundred bucks more and had all the fuss with that. Shade Posted October 28, 2013 Share #9 Posted October 28, 2013 Depends on what you're asking and the overall condition of the M9. But I personally would be MUCH happier to purchase an M9 after an CLA.
akiralx Posted October 29, 2013 Share #10 Posted October 29, 2013 How do you CLA an M9? I assume only Leica themselves would service one.
rcoles Posted October 30, 2013 Author Share #11 Posted October 30, 2013 James: Does it need a CLA? It seems to me it works fine, but after 4-years of use and lugging it around I assumed it might help it sell at a better price.
rcoles Posted October 30, 2013 Author Share #12 Posted October 30, 2013 ...and why are you selling it?Pete Pete: Now that I have the M, I am not getting much use out of the M9. For most of my photography I carry one camera and one or two lenses. Bob
