I like looking at photos.

The screen on the back of the camera is nice for looking at photos when I'm out with just a camera.

I like looking at photos.

Don't take the screen away. You miserable lot.

I hope that this time, considering that Leica has had nearly 4 years to develop the next Leica M that it will just have a much improved, larger and magnified rangefinder view, jaw dropping low light capability, that it will be much lighter, and be at least 50 megapixels, and allow 4K movies to be filmed.

I think that Leica has flogged the different versions of the M240 as much as it can, it has devalued its brand enough by releasing all these different camera models, I think it runs the risk of becoming like Nokia.

Nokia, instead of focussing all of its its attention onto 1 phone decided instead, to come out with hundreds of phone models, and in this manner shot itself in the ass. I remember looking on the Nokia website and scrolling for minutes through so many different phone models.

Leica camera just needs a compact, a M and a S. Nothing more.

Possibly - but it also means that the parameters for the new M were laid out something like four years ago...:(

Instead of putting Leica lenses in a smartphone, put a phone in a Leica M, T, SL, or S.  You don't hold the camera up to your ear to talk or listen....You use an ear bud with mike for talking.  With an embedded  phone I have all the advantages of a great camera system, and I can still transmit my boring pictures immediately.  At least have a phone module that would bond with the Leica camera system.  Change cameras?....change phone module to match different Leica.  The new M240 could have a pass through to a multi-function base plate with a phone.... Now, for that I would pay extra.

Ciao,  Sully

I have two MM 246. A camera without live view would be a no go for me as I shoot a lot of landscapes off a tripod. I came back to Leica (I used to shoot film Ms in my youth) as I wanted something light of uncompromising quality and wanted to have balck and white files straight out of the camera. Having said that, from time to time I also enjoy shooting my Ms handheld for some street photography. The only thing I really want to see improved in my 246s would be the possibility to shoot long exposures and turn off long exposure noise reduction. I would also give up on the video function, as I never used it.

What it puzzles me from this thread, is that many people is advocating for the next M to have lesser functions than the current one. If you don't need some functions just don't use them, it doesn't mean that somebody else could find them useful. Having lesser functions will not make the camera cheaper, as the M-D showed.

I like having the LCD as I am just getting back into digiscoping and focussing can only be done with either the LCD or EVF.

Wouldn't an EVF be better for this? Part of my suggestion was that there would be an EVF socket like the one on the T to take either the T's EVF or an updated one.

I have yet to try digiscoping with an EVF. It would allow for better magnification as there is no room for error on focus ... unless at infinity.

The scope I have has an upward facing eyepiece. The EVF fits on top of the camera, on top of the scope, on top of the tripod. If I were 2.5 meters tall that wouldn't be a problem.

However, as a bit of a short arse I might need a step ladder. :D

Us two-meter types don't use the term "short arse". We call it vertically challenged.

100% yes ... but

The SL has no interesting AF lenses for the moment , maybe in 5 years
I shall not change my M for a SL only  for a better viewfinder

If the SL comes with Noctilux , Summilux  AF lenses , I shall change at once

M lenses work perfectly on the SL, no need to use a native lens. Even if the new M comes with some kind of digitized rangefinder, the viewfinder will still be optical and the lenses manual.
