findranger Posted October 18, 2013 Share #1 Posted October 18, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hej, my beloved M4-P seems to suffer from a light leak. See attached snapshots. It appears on one or two exposures per film. All Images are taken with M4-P, Summicron 35mm Asph., original hood and B+W high quality ND Filter. I experienced it only with the Cron so far, though it seems to be body problem. My questions are: Common issue? Where is the light leak? Back door? Shutter? How/Where to repair (Berlin)? Complicated? Expensive? Thank you very much in advance!! Peter Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! normclarke Posted October 20, 2013 Share #2 Posted October 20, 2013 The light is coming in through the shield that abuts the shutter curtains. Either the baffle has failed or the curtain has curled. It is a simple repair. Best, normclarke.

wlaidlaw Posted October 26, 2013 Share #6 Posted October 26, 2013 I feel that modern central heating may be to blame or possibly leaving the camera in the sun (guilty as charged). My M4 is exhibiting similar symptoms although nothing like as bad as the OP’s. I think mine may also be leaking a bit of light through the back door bottom edge. This no longer fits as well as it should and is very “clicky”. It is off to Peter at CRR in Luton, UK in December, for rectification of these faults and an RF re-silver plus service. Other than a quick sterilisation of the RF a few years ago to kill off the fungus, it has had nothing done to it, since I was given it as my 21st present in July 1967, so the poor old thing is overdue some TLC. payasam Posted October 26, 2013 Share #7 Posted October 26, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Normclarke is right. I suffered this twice (IIIc and M2), and it happened when I changed lenses in moderately bright light.
