Lot 177, two Leica CL/CM prototypes estimated at €120,000 - €150,000 has already received an absentee bid of €260,000.

Maybe two rival collectors or (dealers on behalf of collectors) have bid - but why so anxious to acquire these cameras and so early in the bidding?

Lager illustrates 9 CM/CL prototypes. Maybe to a specialist collector already owning several, adding these to his stable might complete his story of the Leitz/Minolta collaboration to produce the world's first compact interchangeable lens rangefinder camera with TTL metering. And of course the CL led to the CLE for which there could also be (to a specialist collector) 'exciting collaborative prototypes'. And we should not underestimate the aesthetic appeal to certain collectors of such relatively small almost 'pocketable' cameras. These two prototypes could be rival collectors' missing links.

Who said digital cameras would never be collectables?

Lot 190 - M9 prototype 13.200 Euro (although well under estimate)

That was a bargain. I watched the sale live and the bidding was over for Lot 190 in a few seconds - as if maybe only one bid.

Very few lots were unsold - but a string of Italian Leica copies failed to attract bids. Most Leica copies that sold realised less than their estimates.

Exactly !! Told my wife that a fine fikus was for sale at her favorite online shop for gardening (Dutch, not Austrian... but doesn't matter) , but 15.000 € seemed too much for an unexpert like me... :D

(btw... can't explain the price of the Lux 35 lot 213... I don't like to sell my old lenses... but confess that for that price I would be very happy to sell my identcal item, with its OLLUX; and time passes on ... so that I can ALMOST forget that 27 years ago bought and sold in some months a twin of #226... at around 1/25th :o)

This is what is absolutely awesome about Leica (not all, those smart items:cool:):

You buy, you use, you sell... you earn;)
