Guest polygamer Posted April 7, 2014 Share #4461 Posted April 7, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) 1.I thought we had it cracked with the A7, reasonable performance with my lovely 21/2.8 asph. 2.If not then what? Are you serious when you say that the Fujis are bad with M lenses less than 75mm? I see some good stuff out there, but are the 16mp Nexs better bets? Hi, ad1. As I tried to show above, even the 21 Elmarit can come into difficulties with uniformly coloured objects, and if sharpness across the frame is desired. So, I still see applications for my "Iron Lady" M 9. ad2. The Fujis were discussed at great length in the German Systemkamera Forum. Corner smearing was a major problem with many Leica M mount lenses. So, some people with Leica/Voigtländer/ZEISS UWA/WA lenses stopped using them, or bought Fuji native lenses. Only 75mm was trouble-free. - I lost interest in the Fujis ... (I do not expect the new FF Fuji sensor to be better, if it keeps the design.) Adapting Leica m mount lenses works best with the SONY NEX-6 (if you need a viewfinder) or the NEX-5N. I have them, too ...
Advertisement Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Hi Guest polygamer, Take a look here The Sony A7 thread [Merged]. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
algrove Posted April 7, 2014 Share #4462 Posted April 7, 2014 Hi, some of the problems we experience are due to digital photography capabilities. In the analogue days, I simply enjoyed my slides. I never got up from my chair to look into the corners. I did not use a magnifying glass, either. In a way, we are doing the same thing with cameras we do with powerful cars. Every now and then, we try to find out what they can do - not in, but around corners - , but most of the time we just cruise at 100 mph ... So I am still curious how you are going to be viewing your images.

gyoung Posted April 7, 2014 Share #4464 Posted April 7, 2014 Went into town today, and decided to have another look at the Nex-6. Tired of indecision and peering at corners, and so as they were offering it at a VERY good price due to its imminent 'replacement' (about one third of the A7, half the XE-2) I bought one, at that price it will do till the 'perfect M lens solution' arrives, at a price I can afford!. M adapter will be here in a couple of days, then the fun begins! Thanks Polygamer and Thomas Chen in particular for all your work over the last few months, when I manage something worth showing from the combo I will do so, although I might have to start another thread! Guest polygamer Posted April 7, 2014 Share #4465 Posted April 7, 2014 Good luck with the NEX-6. - A very prudent decision. SONY announced the 7S. I suppose S stands for summer. We can expect an a utumn w inter x -mas model, like the fashion industry ...

Thanks Polygamer and Thomas Chen in particular for all your work over the last few months, when I manage something worth showing from the combo I will do so, although I might have to start another thread! Gerry Gerry, I think you have made a right decision. Rumor says SONY has successfully developed a full frame 54MP Foveon 3X sensor as shown here : http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/page/8/ http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/page/9/ The sensor of this sort functions like the conventional film, collecting Red, Green, and Blue rays by three separate sensing layers. Therefore, the 54MP pixels sensor actually creates a 18MP image file. It is likely that Leica WA lenses could perform well to our satisfaction on a camera equipped with Foveon 3X sensor. SIGMA has brought out compact cameras with the Foveon 3X sensor (e.g. DPII quottro) and claims the capability in rendering sharper, more 3D like, and more saturated images. Let's wait for the coming SONY E-mount camera featuring Foveon 3X sensor hopefully as a "perfect M lens solution". Best Regards, Thomas Chen

Nick Well sonyalpharumors says its 'true', ie a rumour but not an April Folls joke. I think for Rumour sites to indulge in April fool jokes is dangerous ground! Steve P Posted April 8, 2014 Share #4470 Posted April 8, 2014 I agree, Gerry. Very foolish indeed for a rumour site to post hoaxes, even on April 1st. Great way to undermine your own credibility.

Thomas Chen Posted May 2, 2014 Share #4472 Posted May 2, 2014 The fad of using Leica M lenses on the Sony Nex or A7 series cameras seems incidentally trigger the innovation of M-E mount adapter. Some members of LUF adopt Hawk-Factory M-E mount adapter- Version 2.5 for their NEX 6 or 7 and by the way obtain the benefit of close distance capability for Leica M lenses (from 0.7 m to 0.23 m or so), while I’ve used the Version 3 with bigger rear opening suitable for A7r for almost half a year. Yesterday I received the Version 4 as shown in the attachment, featuring improvements such as: 1. Reinforced structure at E-mount interface, 2. A rectangular rear opening in proportional to the shape of CMOS sensor. How is its relevance to the image quality? I took the same scene by V3 and V4 adapter respectively, looks like the rectangular shape guides better and hinder not any ray from the rear element of lens towards the COMS, without allowing rays straying and reflecting within the space between the lens and the adapter, resulting in a more coherent image (please see the building details in the center. I browse them by Dell UltraSharp 2711 monitor, 2560x1440 pixels). The comparison of OOC jpeg is here https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6w53r8d1125ys96/-bWOD-Zo13 I’m not sure whether the outcome of this set of images is only a single case or not, therefore the research to justify the consistency is needed. AlanG Posted May 2, 2014 Share #4474 Posted May 2, 2014 Thanks. What lens was used? The image with the new adapter seems very good and does not seem to have much smearing in the corners. However the image made with the older adapter has less detail overall (and more smearing in the corners.) So something else is different - maybe focus or slight camera movement in addition to the improved corners.

I had a cheap NEX M adapter until I bought my A7r and then ordered a Hawk close focus M adapter. I can tell you my lenses seem sharper, especially my Nokton 35mm 1.2 and 50mm Summicron. I think better adapters have much better alignment and precision mechanics. So I guess you get what you pay for. If you get an expensive camera, and have great and sometimes expensive lenses, DO NOT get a cheap adapter!

It dampens the shutter of the A7r and if you have lenses like the Noctilux which I have, the grip vastly improves handling. My photos are also sharper with the grip regarding any camera shake. That with a quality M adapter are the key to success with the use of certain Leica M mount lenses.

Guest polygamer Posted May 26, 2014 Share #4480 Posted May 26, 2014 Hi, with my A7 and the Leica Elmarit 2,8/21 ASPH I could take a picture like this (if you pay for my travel expenses). The SONY A7R, however, is very capricious with UWA/WA lenses. I am not sure how your 21 Summilux will perform.
