Hi everyone I am vacationing in Porto Portugal and I have noticed my bright frame lines dim out, first becoming bright and then very dim. Anyone notice this, and how does one enable the camera to maintain bright frame lines all the time.

I have been holding of on an M10 purchase because in my heart, I want a classic design (M3 style) M digital. We have seen this int eh M9 and M240, and are waiting for the M10 version. The last digital M I bought was the M8 , and that was not pocket change in 2007. My feelings are If I am going to spend $7,000 USD plus, I should be able to get what I want. My money is hard to come by and I cannot afford to upgrade all the time, to every new model year after year. I hear rumors here and there, so as I am sure most of you have. So any info would be appreciated. I fully intend to buy an M10, but it needs to be what I really want.

I saw the other thread on why others would not upgrade to the M 10. I am starting this one to ask everyone why they would upgrade. My reasons are simple and logical. My last M purchase believe it or not was the M8 10 years ago! I am still using my M8, and I have calculated that over 10 years, it cost me $39 USD a month. I will probably use the M10 for another 10 years and that comes out to $54 USD per month. Not bad. Aside from that, $6500 is not peanuts for everyone. I have been using a Sony A7r and Fuji X-PRO 1 and X-Pro 2 to fill the gap which has worked very well over the years. I just did not feel the improvements from one model to the next were large enough to justify the purchase price. Now with the M10, and I am comparing it to the M8, I would say for me, it will be a HUGE improvement, so for people like me, the $6500 USD is not that big of a deal. Another thing is this: Even My M8 files, when up rezzed, hold up surprisingly well to the X Pro 2 and A7r, which is a testimony to the high quality of Leica lenses and the sensors. So with the new M10, I am sure applying the same logic, the digital decay should be minimal. I just hope they would come out with a M 10P version. For over $6000 USD, I want that choice fairly soon.

Thanks Henry! Yes, that is why I love the older f1.0 version over the new one. That delicate rendering is very striking with the f1.0 version. In large prints, the old Noctilux is a very sharp lens at f1.0, but having a less clinical look. What amazes me is how the Sony sensor faithfully reproduces the color cast the Noctilux is known for. Some Noctilux owners could use the A7 series as a dedicated camera for that lens only, and use a digital M240 , M9, etc,,, for other lenses, especially the wide angle lenses.

Here is a shot of my daughter at her dance recital with my Noctilux @f1.0 on my A7r using the Hawk adapter. My Noctilux practically lives on my A7r much more so than it did on my M8 due to much easier focusing accuracy and of course full frame!
-
Also, the battery grip is a MUST! It dampens the shutter of the A7r and if you have lenses like the Noctilux which I have, the grip vastly improves handling. My photos are also sharper with the grip regarding any camera shake. That with a quality M adapter are the key to success with the use of certain Leica M mount lenses.

I had a cheap NEX M adapter until I bought my A7r and then ordered a Hawk close focus M adapter. I can tell you my lenses seem sharper, especially my Nokton 35mm 1.2 and 50mm Summicron. I think better adapters have much better alignment and precision mechanics. So I guess you get what you pay for. If you get an expensive camera, and have great and sometimes expensive lenses, DO NOT get a cheap adapter!

Noctilux f1.0 problem: Missing screw on mount/could be loose?
eleskin replied to eleskin's topic in Leica M Lenses
I very carefully removed the chrome bayonet and screwed it back in tightly. This seemed to have eliminated my problem. I still have not figured out what the two small screws are for. I suspect they are tensioning screws on the black outer shell with the depth of field engravings to hold that in place so it lines up with the screw holes in the bayonet mount. When I removed the bayonet mount I could see the inside of the lens start to rotate, so it seems these two screws prevent that from happening. It would seem a waste of time and expense to send that to Leica when i am sure a good local camera repair could do it. After all, I always replace little screws for my eyeglasses all the time. Sometimes this happens with our cameras and lenses. This is not as big of a problem than a lens being out of alignment, etc... So anyone who knows a Noctliux inside and out, please confirm to me what i suspect. I am sure I am right on this. -
Hi everyone! It seems my trusty Noctilux f1.0 is missing a screw in the focus mount (I see there is two) and I detect extremely slight almost non existent movement of the mount when I pull at it from the rear where the chrome mounting ring is. My question is do these two screws hold on the mount, and why does it seem to be very, very slightly loose? Could I fix it myself? Anyone have this problem?

I must say the focus peaking is extremely accurate! It is as if the screen is a giant micro prism from the slr film days! You have to get used to it , but when you see the highlight area it is in focus unlike the Sony where a broader area is highlighted and focus is missed! My Noctilux f1.0 is spot on at f1.0! I am very impressed!!!!

I am very impressed! It seems there was a bug in version 3.0 of the upgrade that corrupted video files. Fuji just responded by posting a new firmware update replacement within one day to correct the problem. An extremely fast response! I would like to hear other stories about other camera companies that respond so quickly! I can say this, for what you pay, Fuji certainly deserves a lot of respect on how they aim to please their customers! Really good value!

Here in the USA, I am seeing X-Pro 1's going for $1000 USD new. When you consider these fantastic updates, that is one hell of a value! Fuji is really committed to this X system and its customers! Bravo!!!
-
Yes it is official with the upgrades. And to top it off, at a Fuji Event in Canada, it was announced that in an update this fall, focus peaking will have choice of colors, minimum shutter speed in auto ISO AND new lenses: 23mm f1.4 in October, 10-24mm in December, and a 56mm f1.2 in January 2014!!!!! Wow!!!!

Well by next week, the update will be here and fuji is promising dramatic improvements in how the cameras will operate with the new firmware. I have to admit, Fuji has really made me happy with how they are maintaining the value of their cameras with all of these upgrades. For the money, they cannot be beat , and I am saying this as a Leica user since 1990! So in this order, Fuji and Leica are my favorite camera and lens makers. For the price, Fuji is my favorite hands down!

I just read Fuji is providing a firmware update in July that will finally give the X Pro-1 and X-E1 focus peaking! For me this is great! the zoom thing just is not fast enough to capture the moment with M glass mounted. I am also hearing autofocus is being improved. I have to say it here and now: Fuji and Leica are the ONLY camera and lens makers that make an extra effort to listen to us and give us what we want as well as support the products with MANY firmware updates. For everyone, you can shoot M glass with great options. If you cannot afford an M240, the X Pro-1 is the next best thing, and if you can afford it, then the Leica M 240. A win, win for us all!!!!
