Guest polygamer Posted March 6, 2014 Share #4362 Posted March 6, 2014 Stupid question but do you use filters? Might have something to do with it. Hi, I do not use filters on the 3,8/24.
Guest polygamer Posted March 6, 2014 Share #4363 Posted March 6, 2014 i've read something about problems with reflection from the sensor surface to the backside of the lens and back - could that be the problem they were talking about? Hi, there are threads on internal sensor mirroring in the SONY A7/A7R. So, this can happen, and one should not be disappointed, even if a modern Leica lens with new design is used ... Guest polygamer Posted March 6, 2014 Share #4364 Posted March 6, 2014 Hi, the picture with the 3,8/24 ASPH was taken with the camera held in a natural position. With the Heliar 4,5/15 picture below I had to hold it at an angle showing the candles at the upper border of the frame. I find this rather strange, because the Heliar has the reputation of being difficult on the M9, and on the NEXen with pink corners. I would have expectes all sorts of funny effects. So, we have to rely on trial and error (or the camera systems from the manufacturers) ... Welcome, dear visitor! Thomas Chen Posted March 8, 2014 Share #4366 Posted March 8, 2014 Hi, flares with the SONY A7 and the ZEISS Biogon 4,5/21, f4,5, and pink in the lower middle, despite the app ...: Hr. Polygamer, SAR reported that SONY will update software for A7/A7R on 19, March. One of them is the "smooth reflection" app. I'm not sure wether it can solve the flare problem. You may evaluate its performance when available. Greuss! Thomas Chen
Guest polygamer Posted March 8, 2014 Share #4367 Posted March 8, 2014 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thank for the information, Thomas. We shall see what the new app does, and what its side effects are ... I am presently thinking about what the corner softness of the SONY A7 with Leica M mount lenses does to landscape pictures. A little softness might translate into large blurry areas. I would not like to fall behind what I can do with the M9 (first picture) or NEX-6. But in a couple of days I shall be in the mountains to find out. Viele Grüße, and have a nice weekend, Immo! Welcome, dear visitor! Guest polygamer Posted March 10, 2014 Share #4368 Posted March 10, 2014 Hi, when using Leica lenses with the SONY A7/A7R one can see corner softness with wide apertures. To show what we are talking about, two decorated windows (sorry, some people like brick walls better;)). SONY A7, first ZEISS Biogon 2/35, then Voigtländer Ultron 2/40, Nikon mount. I took these, because my Leica Summicron 2/35 is from 1988. Welcome, dear visitor! Guest polygamer Posted March 10, 2014 Share #4370 Posted March 10, 2014 So, this can happen, when using Leica M mount lenses with the SONY A7. I did not post the pictures to spoil the SONY party. But they might prevent some disappointment. Our Leica lenses may perform dramatically better than the ZEISS, let us hope ... Maybe, I should try my Summicron 2/35 V4 ---
sc_john Posted March 11, 2014 Share #4371 Posted March 11, 2014 An extraordinary amount of experience here with A7/A7R. I am about to purchase a Sony for use with my limited collection of R glass (19/2.8 V2, 35-70/4, 80-200/4). I am leaning toward the 7 for electronic first curtain and also because I think 24MP should be plenty. My concern with 7R is shutter vibration, although I haven't finalized my decision . Any comments on pros/cons of 7 vs 7R would be very much appreciated.

Guest polygamer Posted March 11, 2014 Share #4373 Posted March 11, 2014 I am about to purchase a Sony for use with my limited collection of R glass (19/2.8 V2, 35-70/4, 80-200/4). Hi, recommendations on Leica R on the SONYs you find here: Leica R Objektive an der Sony Alpha 7R - Systemkamera Blog My Leica R lenses set in at 135mm. They work beautifully on the A7. Guest polygamer Posted March 11, 2014 Share #4374 Posted March 11, 2014 Maybe, I should try my Summicron 2/35 V4 --- Hi, returning to the topic of SONY softness in corners with Leica M mount lenses I found something in my files with the Leica Elmarit 2,8/28 ASPH on the A7 (Sorry, no brick walls;)). Guest polygamer Posted March 11, 2014 Share #4376 Posted March 11, 2014 So, this is an example of what one can expect from a modern Leica WA. F8 I find satisfactory. The problem with Leica M mount lenses on the A7 is, that results are unpredictable. Hopeless cases on the M9 or NEX-6 work nicely with the app, former favourites on both like the ZEISS Biogon above, show poor results wide open. The only good thing that can be said about the unpredictable performance of Leica M mount lenses on the A7 is: Since I have the A7, I have not bought any lens! Hassle-free adaptation of Leica M mount lenses can be had for little money with the SONY NEX-6. I have (presently only) one ...
gyoung Posted March 11, 2014 Share #4377 Posted March 11, 2014 Two questions spring to mind, is that performance any worse than it does on the M9 or M240? And is the edge performance better at the larger apertures on the Nex 6? I dont have that lens, 28 is not a field of view I like much but I do have a 28/1.9 Ultron. Thanks for all your work! Guest polygamer Posted March 11, 2014 Share #4378 Posted March 11, 2014 Two questions spring to mind,1. is that performance any worse than it does on the M9 or M240? 2.And is the edge performance better at the larger apertures on the Nex 6? Hi, I inserted numbers in your reply: ad 1. Yes, I think so. However, I do not have direct comparisons, because I normally put only one camera in my pocket and I hate changing lenses in the open. But the window is quite close to where I normally park my car, so I could take two cameras with me, and change optics inside the car. ad 2. Yes, with the lenses I have, I would say so. A direct comparison is difficult, again. I do not have exactly comparable lenses, if I take the ZEISS Biogon 2/35 on the NEX-6 and the ZEISS Planar 2/50, I have focal length equality (due to the crop factor of the NEX-6), but different lens performance characteristics. But this worth a try ... On the other hand, I know that the difficulties turn up with WA lenses. The Planar works beautifully on the A7, even wide open. So, I should use the 35mm ZEISS on the A7, and the ZEISS 2,8/25 on the NEX-6, this comes close. I must think a little about what to take ...
gyoung Posted March 11, 2014 Share #4379 Posted March 11, 2014 I was thinking more about a direct comparison with the same lens on both A7 and Nex 6 actually, disregarding the different angle of view Gerry Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk
