3D-Kraft and k-hawinkler are exactly right about the typos. I meant 12800 - one step above 6400. The images are all from RAW and have been adjusted to one degree or another (including noise reduction, though it was relatively light). The RAW files don't stand up as well to adjustments as, say, M9 RAWs (but then what does? The M9 RAWs are stellar), but they fall in line with the Canon and Fuji RAWs I've worked with in the past.

One thing I have overlooked with this camera ....... APPLICATIONS......

Sony has a downloadable Lens Correction application for use within the later NEX range of cameras to set profiles that correct for vignetting, distortion, chromatic aberration and lateral red/blue casts ..... so you can save a set of profiles just like the manually selectable Leica M9/M ones....

It is not clear if this only works with JPG output or actually appends something to the RAW files .....

I suspect/hope this will appear for the A7 range as well at some stage ...

Anyone used it on a Nex5 or 6 ??

I don't know if this can be imported into the A7/A7r's applications. I wouldn't spend $9.99 to find out. https://www.playmemoriescameraapps.com/portal/usbdetail.php?eid=IS9104-NPIA09014_00-000008

I have it for the NEX-6, it's an add on that is not very well documented, and I bought it not so much to let the camera correct the image, (I use basic LR lens correction), but with the hopes of being able to select the lens I was shooting with, and then to incorporate that information into the RAW metadata of the file.

However, the app only works if you're shooting in JPG, something I would tell any new Sony NEX or A7/r shooter to avoid doing. RAW files are the only way to go.

Here is a link over at FM to 5 images that I took last evening at Lock Ridge Park, Alburtis, PA with my tripod mounted A7r and my R 35mm-70mm f4 Vario Elmar lens. Most images around f11 to hold DOF and processed in LR5.3RC (updated this morning to full LR5.3).

I've just spent 2 days in Paris and took the A7r along with the MATE & WATE. I left the M9 & MM behind so that I would not be tempted or distracted. I'm pleased with the results with both of these lenses. After 2 days of shooting with the Sony my overriding impression is still that I far prefer shooting with the M9 and MM and the rangefinder for street photography. I guess old habits die really hard!

I'm confident that the A7r will be great for wildlife and landscapes with my R lenses. I'm going back to Africa next month and am really looking forward to using the A7r with R lenses in the field!

The images below are straight off the camera with no PP whatsoever.

Sure, you mean "in-focus"? Anyhow - consistently sharp at 1/30s with a 50mm lens is simply no realistic expectation neither with a 24 MP nor a 36 MP sensor.

Nice pics, but EXIF says 12,800.

i agree, with 36mp is almost impossible, i was able to do with a 12/16mp (mirrorless micro4/3) camera , but with a Full Frame with so many MP i see micro-blurred

and i m very steady with my hand

Michali - You made me envious for Paris. Oh, you have a blob on your sensor. I seemed to fight with this on my A7R maybe more than my M. This sensor is a magnet for stuff and oil or something like that keeps getting on it. I know it isn't just mine because, I see stuff on most or a lot of the pictures posted from the Sony.:(

Looks possible that my f/1.8 55mm FE is coming in a few days rather than the expected 21 Jan. This kind of under promise over deliver I could get used to! What a refreshing change!

If so I'll do more comparisons for those who are interested, then go quiet again. Just loving this camera so much that time any where near here seems such a waste.

Thanks. I am interested in what you find as well.

Ive almost returned my a7R several times, but the longer I keep it the more I love it. It really is a nice camera, and it may just make a nice companion to my M240.

If I could take the two and smash them together, I might just have the perfect camera I have been seeking for so long :)

I have run some vibration tests with my A7r and my Leica 280mm f4 Apo Telyt. You may wish to look at the results over at FM. Unfortunately at least one of the images was posted out of order, but the tests should prove useful. I may due some additional tests later.

That sums it perfectly IMO.

Very interesting, and not hard to believe. Looks like there will be a good case for multi-axis in camera in-camera image stabilization on the A7r's successor.
