I tried the Walter and it worked for me, but Dale Photo showed me that just a good eye cup can be as effective as an external accessory. farnz Posted September 28, 2013 Share #5 Posted September 28, 2013 I had the Megapearls 1.35 magnifier, the low-cost Hong Kong 1.25 magnifier and the Leica 1.25 magnifier. The Megapearls mag was in between the other two in terms of clarity and distortion but still a long way off the Leica mag. You get what you pay for in this instance. Pete. The dioptre works for me although the magnified patch works really well only in high contrast focus points. Put it this way, if you don't require the dioptre, I think the Leica magnifier works better (only my guess). For me, the dioptre is more important because I have a slight astigmatism and I don't mind the trade off on the contrast in the focus patch. Used it initally on my .58 M6ttl and it's now firmly attached to an M-E. I bought it mainly for the adjustable dioptre function and the slight magnification was more a bonus. However, I have a few mags somewhere, from various sources, which I originally bought in my quest for improved focus with longer lenses (90mm and above). Until I realized that what you gain in magnification is partly (all?) lost to lower clarity due to the additional glass and doesn't make focus in low-light any easier. YMMV. Diopter correction, if you need it, is an entirely different issue. Perfect for Noctilux use. Clarity and brightness of the 1.35x is excellent...... I have Leica 1.25x, 1.4x and JE 1.15x, but this is by far the best for combined magnification and exact dioptre correction. The adjustable bit can be a bit too easily rotated in some of the 1.35's and a rubber O ring between the two halves of the magnifier is helpful. All these gadgets also show up any rangefinder vertical misalignment as your eye position in the viewfinder becomes more critical. If all is adjusted ok, they are great. There is also a 1/4 turn difference for focus at infinity and 1m if you are being very pernickety. Also note that if you DO need diopter correction for the camera, then sticking the same dioptre on the Leica magnifiers will not necessarily get you perfect focus.....
