Fgcm Posted September 18, 2013 Share #1 Posted September 18, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) My M240 is back from Solms after a sensor remapping. Thanks to the Leica service and to the Leica Boutique in Milan. As Jaap said, the service is quick and free on any charge. They shouldered also the cost of the courier. Leica is accountable and reliable. Kudos Franco

Fgcm Posted September 18, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted September 18, 2013 As you can read in many treads, cosmic rays can damage sensors (of any brand, not Leica only). The damage can consist of a hot or a dead pixel or a line. This being the case, a remapping is the solution. I had such problem and Leica solved it promptly. Other brands put the sensor remapping utility into the camera. Leica doesn't, but as you see, Leica provides a great service Such a good service is very rare nowadays. Fgcm Posted September 19, 2013 Author Share #7 Posted September 19, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) How did you catch those cosmic rays if i may ask? First research on hi energy subatomic particles (neutrons, protons, alpha particles) consisted in cutting thin slices of photographic gel. Physicists used to prepare a cube of iron full of gel or a box filled with a lot of staked films. The cube was left exposed on the ground. After some days they developed the film showing the trajectory of the particles passed through the box. They early realized that cosmic rays (or just radioactive elements) are everywhere, also under the sea. In the high atmosphere rays are stronger and easier to find. So, cosmic rays look for you. Do not care to find them. They will find you by themselves. Franco
