jip Posted September 11, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted September 11, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Are there any third party focussing screens for the Leica R8/R9? Â I knew about brightscreen, but Jim, the owner passed away last year...
sc_rufctr Posted September 11, 2013 Share #2 Â Posted September 11, 2013 I don't think there are any. Or I've never heard of one that was offered by anyone. Â Are you thinking about a after market DMR focusing screen?

wildlightphoto Posted September 11, 2013 Share #7  Posted September 11, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Beattie Intenscreen Bright Focusing Screens  1) no R8/R9 screens  which is just as well because  2) I detested the Intenscreen in my R4. It lasted 5 minutes before I sent it back.

topoxforddoc Posted September 12, 2013 Share #12  Posted September 12, 2013 The total pool of R8/9/DMR screens is small. There are some new ones on the Bay. Those are the first DMR screens that I have seen for sale for some time. Maybe try emailing Bill Maxwell in the USA.  https://www.facebook.com/pages/Maxwell-Precision-Optics/200647716643807  The Maxwell screens are highly prized on MF cameras. He might consider making one for you. Just email/message/call him  Charlie
dkCambridgeshire Posted September 12, 2013 Share #13  Posted September 12, 2013 I have not tried the following fully apart from holding a ruler against the screen but it should work if you wish to convert a regular R8 or R9 screen for use with a DMR  The R8 screen measures 25mm x 37.5mm. The DMR sensor measures 17.6mm x 26.4mm ... representing a 1.37 crop factor on the 24mm x 36mm FF format.  25mm - 17.6mm = 7.4mm; 7.4mm ÷ 2 = 3.7mm  37.5mm - 26.4mm = 11.1mm; 11.1mm ÷ 2 = 5.55mm  Using a spare R8 or R9 screen and a very fine Staedtler permanent marker pen (or similar ... the finer the line width the better e.g. 0.3mm or less), on the matt side of the screen, measure 5.5mm top and bottom from the edges of the long sides of the screen (i.e 5.55 rounded to 5.5) ... and 3.5mm top and bottom from the edges of the short sides of the screen ( i.e. 3.7 rounded to 3.5). Join the dots to create a rectangle approx. 18mm x 26.5mm ... which approximates to 17.6mm x 26.4mm DMR sensor size.  Keep fingers off the surface of the screen whilst measuring/drawing. Use a very small ruler ... I just used a 15cm rolson ruler to test the feasibility of measuring accurately on my spare R8 screen. With care, it should be possible to mark out the rectangle without scratching the screen.  Try this at your own risk .. and please check my measurements first.  Best wishes   dunk
